HEI Distributor help

I'm putting in a new distributor in my 74 CJ5 and i was just wondering where is the best place to run the power wire? and what gage wire you run? i was thinking run it to the solinoid what are you guys doing

I used 14 or 16 ga to a switched power source that keeps power during cranking. Basically, the same thing that powered your old ignition coil.
