Heims and tune adapters

When designing your links do you measure them to have full threads in the tube adapter? (Minus jam nut)

Im working on a small project with 3/8 heims no suspension or anything like that.
 
generally leave a few threads out so you can shorten the link as well as lengthen the link
 
I just do it with both jam nuts on all the way in. If i need to shorten then i can just take the jam nut off one end. But i could be very wrong
 
I put them almost centered in their travel. I keep a slight bit more thread in the tube adapter than not.

Usually means I thread jam nut until it bottoms out on shank, then leave 1/2" thread exposed from tube adapter to jam nut. Typically leaves 1/2" travel each way and still have plenty of thread.
