I am in need of some advice, here's my issue. I have a '78 Chevy 350 4-bolt with a quadrajet carb. I recently rebuilt the carb changed the gaskets and cleaned it well. She was running great, choke worked, 4 barrel opened and all was well....until....Last week I started having a little issue. The engine is having trouble starting cold, but once it starts it idles fine, sometimes it will smoke a little but i know the valve seals are prob on there last leg. The BIG problem is that if I give it hard throttle from idle it will hesitate then "catch up" and rev on up (sometimes it will stall completely). At first I thought it may be too rich so I have adjusted the idle screws, no change. I'm thinking, maybe ignition advance/timing, vacuum leak, faulty accelerator pump on the carb, the quadrajet famous "leaking bowls", or (as i suspect)the engine is just a piece of sh**. all advice is welcomed.

can i ask why u rebuilt the carb to begin with? was it acting up the same way as now? or did it have another symptom?

i would take a good fine tuned quadrajet over a edelbrock anyday. iv had nothing but problems out of edlebrock carbs.

x2 on float level also verify flow and pressure of fuel pump and fuel filter. Q-jets have a vacumn power jet that operates two metering rods.

X3 quads dont need much fuel pressure to overcome the float. 7 psi is plenty. Have you been twisting the distributor? Vacum advance may be shot or have a line off. They help the timing on starting and acceleration.
