ok, Im looking into a ford 250 and need some info/input on the good-vs-bad.. its a 2004 with 56k miles,harley davision edition, 4 door,6.0 diesel,lifted on 40's..looks well taken care of, but im a lil scared of the 6.0 and the dealer dosent seem to know much about it. It starts/idles fine no smoke or studdering.Im planning on going to look it over again this week to see what date it was made and drive it..anyone know what to look for as far as fixes/porblems on these trucks? Any info would be big help

1) Look to see if the heads have been studded.
2) Look at the de gas bottle and see the condition of the coolant. If you see traces of coolant runnin down the bottle, run.

Those 2 jump out...
 
Whats been done to it? intake? exaust? tuner? if its stock i agree with ron and if it all checks out you should be fine. but if u do get it i would do a egr delete asap and head studs too
 
ok, how do i tell if its been studded? bolts on top of the head instread of a bolt??

it had some kind of after market filter?,2 stack's,edge tuner? wasent on when i looked at it..?

could the head studs be done with out taking off the heads or would you replace the head gaskets while working?

You can se the outside row without removing valve covers...if its studed you will see a stud and nut, if not you will see a bolt head.

The cab has to come off these trucks to gt the heads off, not sure anyone would do that and re use the gaskets.

If it had stacks, a tuner and an afetrmarket filter and they have now been removed....Id be running, unless the price was smokin'
 
thanks guys, the truck sold b4 I could see if it had been fixed :/ ..it had 56k miles and was 25k i thought it was a good deal for a 250 harley..oh well i think ill stick to 7.3s lol
