Unfortunately, that's not realistic for many.  Even the SPCAs in many places have to euthanize because there are just too many stray and unwanted animals.  The Burke County group is really good; I've done a lot of animal rescue networking in the past and have friends up that way... and it sounds like there are other good groups around.


If you can find rescue groups that will take them, that will be best.  Go to petfinder.com and you can search for rescues near your zip code... both larger SPCA and county groups and smaller privately-run rescues.  Breed-specific groups may be of help, also, especially with placing the pittie.  They'll make sure they're vetted and neutered and evaluated for the best fit with another family.


Thanks for thinking of these poor animals; they deserve better than what they've got and will have you to thank when they find it!
