My dad will be 65 this year and he is planning to ride his bike roughly 180 miles in one weekend.

I have had Type 1 diabetes for 35 years. This cause has always been important to me and my family, but this year it's different. My son, Tyler was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on January 24, 2013. He is ten. He's a strong, smart kid and he is dealing with it better than I ever could have imagined, but I don't want him to have to say he's been a diabetic for 35 years. I want to find a cure!! Any donation will be greatly appreciated. And if you want to join us at the finish line, we'll ride up that Sunday and cheer on the old man as he crosses the finish line!!

From my Dad:
I am doing the Tour de Cure for the third year. I need your help to stop diabetes. I will be riding my bicycle about 90 miles from Cary, NC to Aberdeen, NC on Saturday May 18, 2013. If I survive that I will turn around and ride back to Cary on May 19, 2013. I am doing this to raise funds for the American Diabetes Association. I need you help. Please click on the link below to see my personal page and learn more. Once there the most important thing you can do would be to click and donate to this cause so that we can hopefully Stop Diabetes.

Thank You So Very Much,

Michael & Dee Hughes

Tour de cure is awesome I've ridden it before and it was a blast.

A positive note: Tyler has always beeen very active in sports, mainly soccer. He wanted to try lacrosse and had his first practice yesterday. It's his first time playing organized sports since being diagnosed. He was a little apphrehensive. We found out there was another kid on the team with Type 1 diabetes and one of the coaches has Type 1 as well. He felt a lot better and I think he made a new friend yesterday!

Thanks to all those that contributed. The ride is this weekend.

I will be taking my Mom and my 2 kids to the finish line on Sunday to cheer him on!!

Thanks again everyone. He raised close to $4,000.
Here he is at the finish line with his fan club (grandkids):
