im looking to step up the tj this winter, what are the dana 60 fronts that are most desirable and will work best, and what is the best choice for the rear
thanks

You want a Ford Dana 60 front. I'd look for an 86-91 which is a kingpin and strong than newer ball joint axles. For the rear you can't go wrong with a 14 bolt from a chevy 3/4 or 1 ton.

for what its worth the above mentioned Ford Dana 60 Front paired with a WFO Concepts TJ 3-link truss is a "simple" setup to get under you TJ. Run a 3 link with the 3rd link coming from the Drivers side and it comes together very nicely. After buying the truss and seeing how it is made (I installed it under a XJ) one could maybe fab one for cheaper, maybe, but in the long run they aren't that much and come with ALL the necessary bracketry to make it set evenly under your TJ with very little trimming to the Drivers side casting on the axle in the area of the factory spring perch. On top of that its is BEEF. I am by no means trying to pimp their stuff but they are the only ones I have found that offer a truss that centers the axle and keeps the ability to maintain the stock location and use of coils and shocks. this truss is also a good platform to add Hydro if you were to choose to go this route in the future. just my .02 though.

I'd look for a pair of axles from an 05-up Superduty, and use the radius arms and trackbar on the front, and put the TJ brackets on the rear.

X2. These things dwarf kingpin 60s and come with 35 spline outers from the factory. I even like the 99-04 axles too. The best part is they're cheap. You should be able to find a set for less than 600 bucks. A lot of people think they're weak because of the balljoints, but I've never seen a dana 60 balljoint fail that was properly maintained. I've seen plenty of kingpin knuckles fail though.....

The 10.5 is nothing to laugh at either. 1.5" 35 spline shafts, 10.5" ring gear and factory disk brakes.

I saw a balljoint 60 break an upper balljoint when beating on a difficult obstacle and cause a ton of carnage in a well maintained race rig. I have never seen a kingpin 60 fail. I have seen kingpin bearings that went ungreased eventually allow slop in the steering, but even then the rig was very drivable and caused no other damage.

What year? The 99+ superduty stuff is stupid beefy, and 05+ even beefier.

Where are you finding the 05+ Super Duty axles for $600 per set? I've been keeping my eyes open for a set and they are usually around $1000 for the set.

I dont know squat about SD axles. What is the difference in the 05+ stuff compared to the earlier SD axles?

05+ has 35 spline stubs, knuckles/wheel bearings are even beefier than the 99-04. Some f450s came with a super 60 which is a bigger ring gear and 1550 joints on the axle shafts.

I don't remember, but I read a lot about it a couple months ago. 05+ are coil spring with radius arms.
