Hey guys!

I am new to the forum, and the area. I have re-built a 1984 Jeep CJ7. I love it. I have come across a noise that I can't quite track down, hopefully someone can help me.

When I start of in first gear, I hear a strong rattling sound. Almost like the exhaust is rattling, but I don't that is the cause though. I think it might be something with the clutch, that I replaced. But who knows. I don't hear it in any other gear though.
If anyone has an idea what to check on, I would greatly appreciate it!

Sounds like a 1st gear problem. Galled or partially broken 1st/cluster gear is suspect. If transmission drain plug has a magnet, see what is on the magnet. Hopefully noting.

sounds like SEAIR is pointing you in the right direction, check for shavings like he said

after that pop the top and have a look
