Help with filter problem

I modified the stock filter setup on my grizzlys to a common mod. I read some write ups on the inter webz and pretty much followed them. They all had the same issue though with no real sure solution.

Problem is when I go to tighten the filter clamp it slips back off. It really needs some type of rib at the end to help hold it on. Anybody got an idea of a way to add one or some other idea.

Here are some pics. As you can see the filter design keeps into from pushing on very far.

Rough up the plastic with some 60 grit paper.. the filter has no grip on the slick surface.

How about 4 screws into the box side then slide the plumbing boot over them, tighten and the heads will give something to grip to. Was that impossible to follow? Seems clear as mud to me.

Or use a grinder with a cut off wheel and make a series of groves around the pipe coming out of box for the plumbing adapter the grip. I like that idea better than the stupid screw idea.

I actually had the same stupid screw idea at first. I didn't think of roughing up the plastic. Good idea.

Will have to wait until tomorrow. The freaking European hornets have taken over the shop for the night. Something about all those lights in the shop says "hey come on in and harass the allergic guy"

And that's the filter not a plumbing fitting. Only thing I did was add the round (MAF filter mount I think) thing. Stock setup the filter just lays in there and the lid holds it in place. My intake tube was always dusty with old setup.

Thanks for the help.

Or, just a strip of 1/8" foam w/ an adhesive backing wrapped (e.g. weatherstripping) around the pipe.

I'd use a cut off wheel to make a couple of parallel grooves around the pipe. The filter looks to have the same type of grooves on the inside of the rubber boot.

That looks like a piece of PVC. Find a male/glue to male NPT pvc Fitting. Either the threads will give a friction surface or add a large lock nut to it.

is that some sort of grease or lube on the rubber of the filter boot ? clean it off, if the rubber is of any quality it will grab just fine with no added sealing aids. and as said, make grooves around the outer diameter of the PVC to let the rubber grip.

Is the diameter of the tube too small...?

You just need a strip of rubber to add a small amount to the diameter. The clamp will provide plenty of force providing the diameter is slightly larger, and anything like rubber will grip both the tube and the filter.

If it doesn't get very hot, wrap the tube with electrical tape or rubber splice tape.

Or, get a piece of sheet metal or plastic, and wrap a strip around the tube without overlapping the ends. Again, the clamp will provide lots of force with the right diameter.

Yeah I got some of the filter oil on the rubber. I tried to clean it off but considering it was all over my hands I probably didn't get it all.

And the tube is slightly larger. It takes some finessing to get the filter on. One of the people that did a write up took a dremel and removed some of the rubber inside the uni filter to allow it to slide further up on the tube. I just didn't like that idea. Seemed to easy to miss some debris and it end up in the cylinder.

I'll try to scuff it up and add some grooves tomorrow. I'll let y'all know how it works out.

Well I made sure the surfaces were completely clean of oil and took some sand paper to the plastic. Seems to have worked. I wanted to get it back together to go ride the other day but I think I'll still pull it off and add some grooves later. Thanks for the suggestions.
