I am looking a buying a 1977 K10. It will be a mud toy and the guy is asking $2000. I would like to however be able to drive it on the roads and to the trails, and land that is about 30 minutes from where I live so not that bad of a drive. It has a
350 crate with Eddlebrock carb
SM-465 Granny Gear Transmission
NP-205 Transfer case
Lift Blocks(That i would like to swap)
35" tires
There just one problem. It has the title of a 1986 K10. So its a 1977 Body on a 86 frame. He is selling it with a clean 86 title but only bill if sale for the vin on the 77 body.
Do yall think that is a fair price for what it is and how hard do you think it would be to get it registered?

Thanks,
Mason

Price is fair if it is decent. The title issue is a problem, I would contact DMV and explain it to them and they will tell you how to proceed.

I would not contact the DMV and run it. If it's not a clap wagon it's worth it. If your not an idiot or do anything to draw red flags nobody is going to come inspecting those plates for that ride. Now if you go causing mayhem and insurance claims and get some outside shop involved or such you may be asking for it. And don't try to value it as some sort of priceless antique.
Otherwise me thinks it want be on anyone's radar.

On a side note your location states Raleigh. Since your in Democrat land and have all the emissions you might have a hang up on inspection. Just make sure the smog is current and the vin matches when doin the paper work. If the inspector is anal and goes to match the dash, you gotta problem.

Me, we just have safety and some reasonable minded folk who own shops around.

Thanks for the help,
As far as smog, if i registered it as a 77 then it would be exempt from testing but if i went with 86 it would not be over 35 years. Has anyone dealt with smog policy bad in Wake county?

OBD2 vehicles get plugged in, everything older (pre 1996) gets just safety, or nothing at all if it's like 35 or 40 years old. Won't be an issue with regard to inspection.

@2000tundranc Just pull a driver door off a 86 and there's ya vin plate for police put a dash cover over vin in window and officer can check it off the door...? I have a 86 k5 blazer registered as a 82 and only thing I have for vin is door vin from a 82! Va is strict too and it use to be my dd

Easy fix for smog is pull the egr find a radiator upper support that has the non emissions 77 sticker and bam! I have one if needed...

 That's when ya play stupid...

i've known several people that a had questions about title things like that. They always call the license and theft office in a different county.
