i have a 93 explorer limited i want to put a 3in body lift on it but im not shure as to what i would have to modify to get the truck to work properly. for example im not shure if i would leave the radiator where it sits or pull it up w/ the body and if i do pull the radiator up will it affect my air intake.well the more info the better thanks

p.s ive never been to fond of body lifts but this will wind up being for the future wife and she aint gonna be muddin at the most a little beach driving so i dont want to put the extra money in a suspension lift

not sure how many guys are into Explorers here but might want to check out www.explorerforum.com or send a pm to slravene. He is my room mate and use to DD and wheel an Explorer, so he would have some insight. I have a 2" bl on my YJ and I did have to relocated my radiator, but I had to DROP it. I have the 2.5L in the YJ and since the engine didn't relocate, the fan remained in the same place so I had to drop the radiator (with the fan shroud attached) down to clear the fan.

If Explorer bl's work the same then the radiator will move up with the body, but the kit will come with relocation brackets to drop it back down.

Note: Also just helped remove a bl from a Toyota 4runner and it had the radiator relocation brackets on it as well, so my guess is that your kit will come with it.

I also had issues with my steering shaft(intermediate shaft) when I put the bl on mine.

cool thanks yea i knew that it came w/ the bumper relocation brackets but not the radiator brackets but i did find out that my stearing will be ok but thinks for the help

yes, you will need to drop your radiator/fan shroud. You can get away with leaving the radiator where it is and just moving the fan shroud if its only a 2" bl. You will also need to adress your steering shaft. The 2" also allows you to skip this step. Your rear bumper brackets can be cut and rewelded if you again use a 2" kit. With the 3" kit you will need to completely fab new mounts. the front axle brackets are a bitch no matter which kit you use. They will require some head scratching and fab work.

Now all that being said...ask yourself do you REALLY want to do this. I lifted and wheeled my explorer, and while it was fun and did most things that i asked of it within reason with a locked rear, it still had several shortcomings. The amount of money and time you will put into an explorer to make it really trail worthy is close to what you could buy a second rig to wheel with honestly. Thats what I did.

Anyway...if you really want to lift yours then go with the 2". Its ALOT less hassle (having installed both) and the extra inch you gain from the 3" really wont get you much more in the long run. Let me know if you have any other questions, i should be able to answer most.

Dont do it... Same boat as slravene, had an exploder wheeled and DD's it. It was fun but really wasnt worth it.

If you still really want to lift it get some coil spring spacers and a aal, you come out with about 100$ invested and enough room to clear 32's which is probably all you really want to run without regearing.
