I just put a motor from a 95 xj in my wife's 99 stripped the motor down to basically a short block used her intake exhaust and distributor when she starts it in the morning to go to work she has to press the peddle to get it to start then if it's hot it won't start unless I ether it I don't have a gauge to test fuel pressure any ideas would be great thanks

Sounds like there might be air in the fuel system. On the fuel rail, there should be a Schrader valve. Turn the key to the on position, then take a rag or paper towel or something and depress the nipple on the valve. Gas will come out, hopefully along with any air that's trapped in the fuel rail. If the valve is at the front like my TJ, park with the front slightly uphill to help.

Did that already fuel came out with lots of pressure didn't see any air really and she has put 190 miles on it so I would figure that any air that was in the system would have Xscape by now

Fuel system will self bleed rapidly. Sounds like fuel pump check valve stopped working. Does it have pressure before you turn the key on in the morning? Did the prior motor have the same troubles? Could be coolant leaking into cylinder but generally that causes a miss and not a no start..

Old Motor never had this problem and don't know about pressure before you turn the key I'll check and report back thanks for all the help guys

Check and see if it's losing coolant.. it's probably not fuel related, since you used your old intake and injectors and the pump is the same. Scan tool will tell you if the tps is out.. also worth checking the battery connections, my wife's zj would do weird crap because it was loose and forgetting idle motor positions on cranking..

Ok so I am driving it today it started this morning for me with no problem but it won't start hot with out ether its got a miss and the check engine light came on with code p0320 no Crank signal to engine control module is it the Crank sensor or the cam position sensor would it start at all with a bad cps

Crank sensor and yes if they are going bad they can be intermittent (allow a cold start and not hot or vice versa. Can also cut off in the middle of driving) I highly recommend an oem one as well as the box store ones are certified crap. I did a motor swap in my 97 XJ and had a no start/ intermittent start situation after the swap that was not there before. Went through hell checking everything and turned out to be the cps. I had tried 3 from crap zone advance and O'toolys, got one from the stealership and fired right up and been fine since

I cracked the cam sensor when I pulled it out to pin the distributor to set timing so I am going to swap it tonight and see what it does if it's not it than I'll head to the dealership Monday for a cps I kinda of think it's the cam because of the miss it has almost feels the a dead plug when it's missing

Cam sensor on 99-01xj controls fuel injector sync so definitely start there...that's more than likely ur issue..also no start when hot is coolant temp for ecu related too so check voltage on that sensor too

Yea that is how I broke the cam sensor when I pulled it out to lock the distributor it cracked what way do you do it and I'll do it again while I am changing the cam sensor

Fount the hard stating problem cps but it still has a horrible miss but no codes so I am thinking it's fule related

Look into setting your cam sensor properly..those are crucial to be just right like Jody said
