Well, I'm sorta asking for help. I'm installing a Dana 44 rearend in my jeep soon, and decided to go ahead with the whole SYE and driveshaft deal at the same time. I know I have the knowledge to install the rearend and driveshaft, but I have NO clue as to how to put in a SYE or even if I should get the hack n' tap kind or the heavy duty kind. I'm hoping that with the immense amount of knowledge everybody has on here, that someone would be able to point me in the right direction. Another thing that I'd love, is if someone knew how to install one, if they would do it for me, I'll pay, of course, but I want to watch them do it and learn how to do it myself. I want to learn how to do this stuff, I just need some help with some things.

If you can install the rearend, you can do the SYE. Just follow the instructions and it is a piece of cake. couple of hours work. Just make sure you have a GOOD set of snap ring pliers. If I were closer I would help. I went with the HD type for what it's worth.

Not sure what your working on but, I would go with the HD kit over the hack n tap. You can also get the better kits as a super short SYE kit, for some added drive shaft length.

Plier's are critical, not the external type with the rings on the ends (somebody chime in here with the correct term). Other than that pay close attention to how the oil pump is located on disassembly and put it back exactly the same. As a personal preference I've done all mine on the work bench.

yea it's easy. If you get the tera super short, pick up a spare snap ring from the dealer. That way when you mangle the original one getting it off, you already have the spare?
It's 3$.
The JB conversions super short kit comes with a spare snap ring.
But for a TJ, I really recommend the super short kits.

Agree on the HD over hack and tap. I would do the JB SS SYE myself. Biggest difference of opinion about technique to do the sye yourself is whether or not to leave the 231 installed or take it out. Check both of these videos out for yourself, the 2nd one is better and complete, the 1st one is shorter and illustrates why you should leave the 231 installed if you can.
