I know some folks on here are diehard Google users, I use Google maps to find stuff, sometimes to get me there.

This last week we went to Myrtle Beach, this is the 5th time we've been there, NONE of the trips there or back have been the same route, NONE of the trips have been less than 3.5hrs, several of the trips have required rerouting because the road was closed or under heavy construction.

I thought Google was supposed to know this stuff ?

as we were leaving MB this morning, Take Hwy 22 west out of MB, Google tells me to turn onto SC 90, about 4 miles west of MB, Then LEFT on Hwy 31E, which is Red Bluff RD. This is fine, except just as you make he left turn, there are barricades and road closed signs, NOTHING on Google about road construction, though NOW there is a solid red line because of all the cars that are doing the same thing as me wondering WTF and having to turn around quick ( it looked like a really fucked up circus parade ).
Turn around get back on 22, go up the next exit which is SC 90S and you're now on the other side of the bridge construction on Red Bluff Rd. and now we can continue on into Loris and onto 701 and head west ...

Continue straight, uh, is this the continue straight to the right of the curve or to the left of the curve ? The Road sign itself was kinda mangled and you couldn't really tell which road was which, Maybe someone did as directed and ended up taking out the sign ?

I hate that I've let myself become reliant on a dumb device to show me the way, I haven't bought a map in years.

Around Raleigh, I will use Google to find where something is and I will guide myself, faster or less miles isn't necessarily the most convenient route ( vehicle and load dependent). I've been guided into neighborhoods before, and thats not always a good thing in a commercial vehicle ( big white van with signage that has little to nothing to do with residential business, may as well say "FreeCandy" ).

anyway, Rant off, just wondering if anyone else has these problems or am I the only one with a retarded Googlefu ?

Powered by google.

Using Google navigation you will get traffic updates that say "according to waze"

Waze does update quicker though.

I...errr. a friend recently updated an ex employer's entrance road as closed permanently and it still shows that a couple weeks later . Google would flesh it out first.

Waze

I mean, it isn't like we've had this conversation before or anything....

Whats the difference ? Isn't Waze Google in a fancy dress ?

I keep forgetting to download the app, I guess maybe I should now

As an aside, I think the directions to Myrtle Beach thing solved itself this weekend. unless someone else is springing for the whole weekend, room, food and booze, fawk it. I can be fleeced a lot cheaper camping and have a lot more fun.

Fawk that town.

$100 for 3 people to eat crappy seafood, and not have any thing more to drink than Tea and soda, I'm done.

Major disappointment, Never been to an actual " Nathans Hot Dogs " place.
Man I was hoping I could get a dog with all the garbage on it, peperoncini , 'kraut, onions, hot mustard, poppy seed roll, They looked at me like I had 3 heads " We don't do that here " WTF ?

Right, But Google should have caught that too is what I'm sayin

the parade of cars turning around was crazy.

Apparently leaving MB @ 10am on a Sunday is the most popular time as well.... go figure

Shorter Kevin: The world doesn't work the way I think it ought to work, therefore, the world is out to get me.

Also, check out that ET and ETA. I guarantee that if you don't stop for food or fuel, it's probably 5 minutes slow.

the ETA and all that I never really pay attention too, too many variables to be totally accurate, and the time isn't usually a big deal, unless it's 2am and I've been up the whole day before, then it's a problem, but that doesn't happen often.

That's my point exactly: It is right, if a few minutes pessimistic. Or maybe I drive a bit faster than their estimates. Whichever.

As an aside, like I told Shawn the other day...

My favorite thing about Myrtle Beach is it congregates all the people I would never want to be on vacation around in one central location I have no plans on going (aside from work related) meaning my vacation destination is usually improved.

Hell YES !

It was a work sponsored trip, I'm not a "Hilton" kind of vacationer.
yeah, access to 10 different swimming pools and water parks was fun, but if you need ANYTHING, it's gonna cost you out the ass. bottle of water in the room was $4, bought a flat of water at Walmart for $3.50 and a 12pk of Yeungling for $10, I bought 2 drinks at the bar cost more than the 12pk, the rest were on the company when someone made rounds, I don't need to get drunk that bad.

It cost less to board the dog for 3 nights and fill the tank on the car than one meal at dinner time any of the 3 nights.

I'd much rather have hauled the camper to the mountains and fought the mosquitos and bears.

about the only real perk, there was some very nice scenery :huggy:

I have absolutely no proof to back this up, but I honestly think that some businesses pay Google to route traffic by their locations. Some of the directions they give me make absolutely no sense, and when I go the way I know is faster, it adjusts the ETA down to show that. So for some reason they are sending me on a different route.......

I've heard that from several people, most seemed to have the tin foil on too tight, but there may be some merit to the idea. I've never really noticed any sort of store or business that could afford or be worthy of such an attempt of "directed marketing" but I may be blind to such things

Lol I can find myrtle beach blind folded. Then again I used to live there. Sorry about your Google though.

Google maps has been screwy lately around my house. Its used to route people down MY road to get to the house I live in on MY road which has an address on MY road. But suddenly last month, after working fine for 10 years, it starts sending people up my neighbors road, which would be a longer route if it even connected, but it ends about 1/8th mile away...

You live on Crenshaw Blvd in south central Los Angeles correct?
Bad place to make a "wrong" turn. Dat hood is turrible.......

Yeah we go a couple times a year, and I can usually make the trip in about 2.5 hrs.
