A press should be simple enough, but I just wanted to get some feedback since it is HF... Do others with the HF press have a bunch of left over parts after assembly?

Parts came in 3 box's and looks like I have duplicate pieces plus I can't figure out where the large bolts would go. Maybe I'm just not thinking clearly. 14663585582752045303138.jpg 1466358624175588702009.jpg

But on a serious note it looks like they gave you an extra box of the same parts.
That's what I figured. Just seemed odd that the three box's all had the 20 ton press description, and where all different sizes. Oh well it works the way I assembled it. Does anyone know what the large bolts are used for? I didn't use them and now I have 4.

You apparently got the bolts I was missing from mine

The 4 larger bolts go thru the top crossmember and the uprights, 2 on each side. Not seeing heads or nuts on yours ?

It works, that's all I was looking for

Though I did have to top off the jack with oil as it would only push about 2" before it stopped. Fortunately I have AW32 on hand. Once the jack was properly filled it works fine and pushed out the bushings I was trying to remove with little effort

They must have changed the design. The top crossmember on mine is welded to the uprights. Oh well, I press out a set of bushings this afternoon just fine. Guess I'll throw the extra hardware into a storage bin.

This would not surprise me at all, there seems to be 2 different part numbers for a lot of different items at HF, including this press. I don't see the decal on yours on top beam, is the jack bolted to the plate with 2 Allen head bolts ?

Mine came in 2 boxes, one with just the jack, and them one large box with the uprights and cross beams packed and wrapped, the bolt box/bag was in that box. Mine was short the smaller bolts for the bottom feet braces to the uprights

The decal is on the other side. The jack is not bolted to any thing. The top of the jack piston fits into a cup and the bottom just sits on the cross member unbolted. It doesn't fall out due to the compression of the springs, but I will probably make brackets for the jack to bolt to for peace of mind.

Has anyone extended this press to allow for pressing in/out axle tubes/parts?

Yeah, we had one at my old shop that was extended a foot or two at the bottom to give it some extra height to clear axle shafts, for pressing on bearings.

I bought this one earlier this year, my top is bolted too, not welded. Out of the box, I was missing bolts to fasten the feet to the legs.

Chinese quality control is flawless.

the kids that packed up this press today were assembling chairs yesterday and tomorrow they are assembling air bags....
