hi lift jack options

I stored mine INSIDE my CJ, but being topless all the time, its just like being OUTSIDE. I always had some lube for it, WD40, motor oil, tranny fluid, whatever...the hi-lift can quickly be revived with a slathering of lube.

Yep....

I have two farm jacks. I have one that didn't work for crap and this thread made me go down stairs and piddle with it. It was stuck and wouldn't move at all. I spent about 10 minutes and a bunch of pb blaster and it works pretty good. I'm going to take the whole thing apart and wirewheel/paint it and grease everything that needs it as soon as I get some free time.

I have used the handle more than the jack, great for sleeving tie rods to get out of the trails. Hated the jack. Bottle jack and some cribbing and a small 3ft chain to tie axel to frame works and stores better.

Yes, jacks, especially hi-lift style require maintenance :)

I'm in WV doing off road driver training for the Marines. Their HMMWVs are equiped with hi-lift jacks? Govt for you, 7500 lb jacks in a 16k lb vehicle. These jacks are worthless to the Marines. They have been left lying in the back of the rigs with NO maint and will not move in either direction. They will be repairing them now that they see the problem.

There is nothing more frustrating than a jack that won't work when you need it. Do your maintenance NOW rather than when you need it on the trail. Hi-lift jack inspection should be a routine stop on your pre trail ride 360 walk around.

I have the Hi-Lift 60" steel model that I got from Agri-Supply years ago. I've used it as a winch (took a while, but better than calling a wrecker), tire bead breaker, vehicle stabilization at car accidents, tierod reinforcement, used the beam as a ramp for a high centered car once, and of course lifting a vehicle. I just keep coming up with uses for it. I will ALWAYS have one with me. They're too cheap and useful to not have handy.
