Most likely uses cutting brakes on the "drive" vehicle to steer.
Basically the rear tire is providing the power - but if one wheel stops moving, and the other keeps going, you get skid steer.

It's gonna be rough and and tear the shite out of the ground you're on - but it's a freakin' tank tread already.

Or, more likely, it isn't direct drive, but instead teh wheels are feeding a hydro pump, which pushes a transmission for the treads, that tranny has 2 output shafts and is controlled via 2 levers in the cab.

If it was direct drive, you'd have major problems when it got stuck/built up friction. The vehicle would want to push off of the tire mounts, either ejecting it from the trailer or breaking the friction connection between the tire and drive wheel.
 
either the truck is tied down stupid tight or the rollers it's riding on are knurled or textured if it would start spinning on the rollers that would bring a whole new meaning to being stuck

I read that too.

Really is a good concept, there is lots of areas a person would not need to build a road for short excursions.

Get across the crap hole & go park the tank & go wheel.
