Hobart 187 not feeding .035 wire steady

Make sure the wire is feeding from the bottom side of the roll of wire an when the wire comes out the tip hold it with your fingers to check the feed an see if it pushes through your fingers or not. You don't want it to push that hard to were Your fingers won't keep it from feeding. Also check trigger an see if its getting good contact inside the gun. Hope this helps

Not a pro, but the liner in the cord can get damaged a cause these issues as well. Has it always done it or did it just start?

Soon as i put the new size wire in it started with the problem i stated. how do i replace the liner??

I'm thinking of returning the .035 back to northern tool and buying a smaller size.

I have been told that Lincoln brand wire is better so i may try that.

Is the wire jumping or are the rollers just not turning consistent?

Did you let the wire unspool itself by accident and try to re-wrap it?

My guess somebody big footed the gun lead.

x2. We had the same issue with a cheap Dayton welder at work. Brought it into a shop to get it repaired, and all it turned out to be was the gun liner was a little kinked. In our case it was jackasses who know nothing about welding wrapping the hose tight around the body of the machine when they were cleaning up the shop. Pull the liner out of the hose and check it down it's whole length. A small kink is all that it takes to screw up the feed.

i had a 187 a while back and was having the same problems...new liner, new spool, new tip, new roller..nothing helped. EXCEPT...... playing with the wire feed control and i would find a sweet spot that it would flow smoothly...i think it was around 6

What symptom is telling you it isn't feeding steady? Are you saying it isn't feeding right because it's not welding smooth, or can you physically see the spool stop spinning while you hold the trigger? Really need to be more specific about what it's actually doing.

Even with the rollers fairly loose if the liner is good and the tip's clean it should still feed smooth.

Yep. and if the wire speed is too fast, when welding it will jump a lot making it seem like the wire feed is not steady

In Terry's defense, I don't believe he was implying you did it. Did you not say you got the machine from some one else?

I see you deleted your post. Does that mean you fixed it or just got pissed off at this thread? I'm interested to see what was wrong.
