Holley TA flooding out vent tube

Bought a cheap/used 670 TA for a song...now I know why. I've had the thing completely torn apart 5-6 times now, I've completely rebuilt it, floats, bowls, springs, needles, seats, gaskets, o-rings, every damn thing twice now. The thing will run perfectly for a minute and a half, then flood out the vent tube. When I purchased the carb, I was told it was only used for 3 months...when it got to my house, looked like it had been dropped on the throttle linkages, bent back in to place just fine. I crack it open, it was so full of rust and sludge, I assume it was only ran for 3 months about 10 years ago. I'm kinda leaning towards still clogged up, but I don't know where, with as much soaking and rebuilding as it's had...where??? It's the principle of the thing now, never met a carb I couldn't rebuild as long as the throttle shafts were still good...I bet I have more cash in this rebuild than if I would have just bought a new one. Not trying to get in to a carb debate, I like Holley's and QFT's...I like the 4150 main bodies...I like the Avenger series, but if any one has any suggestions on how to get this carb to work for longer than 90 seconds, I'd appreciate it.

What's the fuel pressure?

Is there anything stuck in the needles whenever you pull it apart? You said you replaced the floats themselves already, maybe try setting them lower and see what happens?

6-6.5psi...tried different fuel pumps, Holley/Carter/Cheapies even a holley blue elctric...didn't make a difference.

Doesn't appear to be anything on the needles. I tried adjusting and even bending the original floats...no dice, new floats, set them where they should be...but haven't fiddled much beyond that. That 90 seconds you could set a timer to. If it were debris, I'd imagine it would be intermittent or immediate. Maybe I got a bad set of floats??? I guess I'll check for cracks and I'm gonna try a set of known good bowls. I read (on pirate maybe) that these things have a finicky check ball???? Can anyone expound on that?

Did you run the serial number on Holley's website. Some older ones were recalled for this and several other reasons. We had one of these that was really a converted street avenger, never worked correctly and the floats always stuck high.

Ended up not touching it this weekend...I'll run the serial number tonight and see what I'm working with. Thanks.

I had one of these several years ago.
Judging from my experience Id say yours is exactly normal.

Didnt know there was a recall...that carb caused me to learn Gm TBI..

Yeah...I'm heading the way of fuel injection. Was supposed to be a couple simple carb swaps. The carb on my Bronco was good, and it was going to be put on my 77 (since it has a carb with warped base plate) so I can move it to the new house, and so it can move my crap. Once I got to the new house, the 77 was getting sequential efi based on 460 parts on it's 400, and the Bronco was getting a 91 fuel injected 460 swapped in. Shoulda been simple enough to rebuild and swap carbs around. Guess I'll just have to pull another carb off the shelf, rebuild it and go on about life.

Bastardized some street avenger bowls...all is right with the world now...idles smooth as glass. Got an accelerator pump and possibly power valve issue at wot at trans shifts now though. Reckon I'll figure that out tomorrow. The kit sent me a 4.5 Pv want to go with a 6.5. I'll see where I stand after that and then start playing with the accel pumps.
