Today the weather was to bad to go to work so i stayed at home. I was out in my garage when i heard a truck pull up, so i went inside to see who it was opened the front door and the two guys jumped back in there truck and took off. im pretty sure they were looking to do something they shouldnt be doing. i couldnt get a tag number but still it made me go check and make sure there was a lock on my trailer and that my johnboats were locked up to.

Locks will not stop thieves from stealing your stuff, most any bolt cutters make quick work of a chain or lock. You should call local law enforcement and give them a description of the guys and the truck, they might find/stop them and find stolen stuff or burglery tools and make an arrest.

my neighbor is a police officer... his house has been broke into 3 times. i called him and told him about it. the way our street is layed out you can see our house from all sides and have easy ways to get away unseen thats why he thinks his house has been broke into so many times.
i know locks dont keep thieves away but id hope it would at least draw some attention to them while there stealing my stuff.

Locks won't stop a determined thief but it doesn't hurt anything to keep your stuff locked up. Stops the lazy thief which is more common than the determined one.

Man we had a bunch hit our neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods for the last 6 months. Luckily our house was never hit. Turned out to be my buddy's 17 year old and 4-5 other guys. He was living in an rv ended up having 100k worth of stolen goods in the camper. We all knew the kid was troubled, but didn't know to that extent.

Does your neighbor take his cop car home?

The local AM radio station tells of thefts/forgeries and drugs related news everyday, most days its all three.I work at home so Im around most of the time but I know it could happen at any time. There is only two of us on this road and our houses are barely visible from the road. Our neighbor home schools so theres almost always somebody around, but I saw in the paper where the neighbors have been foreclosed on and I assume they will be leaving at some point.Hate to see them go,they were/are good neighbors.I have multiple vehicles around so maybe itll keep them guessin if anybodies home.

I am fortunate enough to live out in the sticks... where everybody knows everybody and most of the thieves in the area are not stupid enough to come here. Room mate and I both work hectic schedules but one of us is usually around.
Most of the punk kids in this area are familiar with me because I am always around or throwing a party and I have a pretty good reputation around here I guess. I just don't have to worry about thieves much fortunately.
Now 10 miles away, at my moms house... I had things stolen twice and the police proved to be more than useless. I found the guy on craigslist who stole my subwoofers/box and they said "Unless you have some way to 100% identify that the goods are yours, he will be able to file charges against you and this has happened in the past" That being said I tried to meet the guy and I guess he either figured out who I was or just got nervous because he no showed.
Cops are usually worthless, not because they can't help, but because they have so much red tape and bullshit it protects the crook more than it does you.

no not right now but in a couple months he will.... or he will be the new police chief of the town we live in.

the thing is someone is almost always at one of the houses on my street. and there was always plenty of cars at my house, but my roommate just moved out so it would be easier for someone to figure out what i drove most of the time.

Couple of neighborhood thugs broke into my place over Christmas holiday a few months ago while I was visiting family and doing other festive things. Ended up taking an elcheapo 12 gauge shotgun and a few boxes of shells and a boot knife. Quick grab and run things that cued me in to it being my primary suspects. Everything else was locked away in a safe. The shotgun they stole was the first firearm I ever purchased as an of-age buyer and was pretty well beat up and rusty after 10 years of camping trips and boat rides which was what I bought it for. I left it out for a "one shot one kill" purpose since its worthless otherwise. Calling cops and crime stoppers did nothing. Of course. Hopefully the crooks don't assume they stole my only firearm the next time they try something because I'll have a few nasty surprises waiting for them if they do.

I got home the other day from work and the drivers side rear door was open on my jeep. I don't recall leaving it open. Everything was still inside including my shotgun so it may jave been me, just seems off because I am usually very good about closing doors and what not.

i just feel bad for the person breaking in when they realize that they probably have nicer things then i do..... all my money is spent on trips and toys. nothing in my house was bought. tvs furniture everything was a gift or someone didnt want it so i took it. and guns are always locked in a safe bolted to the floor.

I don't have alot either, but everything I have I worked hard to pay for.
I feel bad for the person/persons breaking in if I'm home or arrive home while they're still there..................

Did you ever call the law w a description of the truck and the 2 guys? that's the first thing I would have done if i couldn't chase them down and get the tag or a conversation w them. You may save others the hardship and angst of being robbed by them if they are caught and prosecuted/locked up by you're giving LE a heads up on these apparent crooks. I've been robbed twice truck toolbox and home and it will make you nothing but mad and determined to do what you can to not have it happen again.

I am constantly nerved by this. I am always on the look out for odd stuff....I live in a cul de sac (spelling?) Yesterday, I arrived home early. let the dog out in the backyard...dog started barking real deep (my dog is not a barker), I grab my gun and walk outside slicing the pie around the corner of my house, noticed that my trash can has been knocked over...pretty strange because it is almost full and heavy....so I know it wasn't the wind, and not sure if an animal could knock it over like that....also, saw foot print in the mud headed out of the gate to the front of the house...couldn't tell if they were mine, but was a bit scary.....im just paranoid (not bad, but I take it very seriously)

The PO of our house had 2 break ins in the same year, both instances coming from the back door.
There is always someone home on our culde sac but I can't always count on them noticing something out of the ordinary....

Had a break in at work last week when it was cold. We're a manufacturing facility, I left late, I noticed the back building on the lot had all the lights on, we don't don't have anything at all back there...and only go back there when the fire marshall comes to do his inspection. So I knew something was up immediately. I grabbed my handy dandy Taurus 92 out of my car, went back to the building...it was some homeless people that jimmied the rear lock open. I called my GM...it was one of those cold nights, he told me to let them stay and we'd change the locks in the morning.

yep called and they had been a break in two days prior with similar looking truck.

let the dog out in the backyard...dog started barking real deep (my dog is not a barker),
My dog barks at any car that goes slow... last spring he was raising hell for a solid 10 minutes so i finally go to yell at him and notice a guy walking down the street on the phone (but trying to look behind everyones house).... he barked long enough to get the neighbor across the street and two doors down out side. we called the cops grabbed my pistol jumped in my truck and fallowed him till cops came. he had three warrants for B&E.

This makes me want to install some additional security measures.
my dad told me to grab some security window stickers from a guys house we are friends with since he wouldnt let them put them up on the windows of his house.... its a start i guess lol
