MY AC is not working, expansion valve going into evaporator has ice on it. Compressor is hot line to condesor is hot both fans running evap appears to be clean. I only know car stuff but i figure expansion valve is pluged up or my juice is low. Anyone in durham have the euipment to hook it up. Its hot.

I`m sure you`ve probably checked all your filters. Just throwing it out there because they often get neglected. Evaporator could be clogged but often times are very hard to see much less try to clean. If you`ve got gauges hook them up. You`ll be able to tell by what your pressures are reading.

A lot of time when you run low on refrigerant they can freeze up like that.

X2 mine did, first hot day last year, and we turned it on, lots of ice and no flow.

Chase is it blowing cold air at all, or was it? I'm guessing you have just turned it on for the first time? It's also possible for the auto-defrost cirtuit to be bad, and it goes and goes until freezing over blocking the lines, then can't undo itself.

IMO, go ahead and call your local dealer and setup an anual contract for service, THEN have them come look at it. Typically the cost of service and parts (incl freon) is cheaper for contract customers, then the rest of the year it's their problem. If it needs Freon, you'll have to have them out there anyway since you can't buy it yourself.

Call A&E at 730 0575. They are in Durham, owners name is Ron and if he doesnt answer just leave a message.
Theyll get you set straight, they do great work.

IMO I don't fully agree w/ the contract thing I think it is a crock to get money off a homeowner. If you keep your filter changed and you outside unit clean of debris you should have no problem. The units today are maintance free pretty much.

No I dont think id do a contract thing just call someone to come look at it and charge up the system for ya.

if indoor coil is freezeing then either coil is dirty filter is stoped up resulting in low air flow or freon is low thats all i can say since u dont have gauges or anything
