Home Made Soap Thread

Yesterday I made a batch of Coco Oatmeal soap. (all measurements are weight not volume)
________________________________________________
A Solid soap, measured in Ounces with a superfat of 3%

Lye (Sodium Hydroxide) 4.21 oz
Ounces of liquid 9.90 oz (water)
Total 14.11 oz
OILS & FATS AMOUNT
Coconut Oil 5.00 oz 16.7 %
Lard 25.00 oz 83.3 %
Total 30.00 oz 100 %

TOTALS
AMOUNT
Lye & Liquid 14.11 oz
Oils & Fats 30.00 oz
TOTAL BATCH YIELD
44.11 oz

I added 1/4 cup oats (which I pulsed through the food processor)
I added 1/5 cup Hershey's coco.

This was a semi hot process which I cooked to an oatmeal consistency before molding.

My wife says it smells so good she would bite it LOL

My Mint Coffee Bean is a great "men's" soap. Same as above but with 1/4 cup ground coffee and one tablespoon peppermint extract.
I use chopped peppermint in the summer when mine is actively growing.

I plan to leach my own lye soon from wood ashes (I heat with wood so they are easy to come by).
This video shows a little about that.

Peppermint soap rocks, the way it tingles makes me :D
I've been using Dr Bronners for years now. I used to get it at the crunchy health food store, now it's at even Target and Amazon. Too cheap and easy to bother trying to make my own.

Satisfying to lather up your woman with soap you made.....just sayin :D

These more natural soaps don't dry your skin and are great in beards.

Nice looking soap you've made their. Guess if the grid goes down you'll still be clean!

Just noticed the other day, the current jug of All was put into service on June 14 or 17 (sharpie wore off some), 2015. I wash 5-6 loads per week, most weeks, not shy about washing things worn once. I fill the cup 1/2 - 3/4 the way to the 1 mark and add 1/4 - 1/3 cup Borax (instead of 'color safe bleach'). This is how much is left in the jug that costs $11-13, not including buy one, get one half off of $5 GC for purchasing two...
