Okay guys post some pics here. I just looked at the Off-Road Direct sas kit...$599 and that doesn't even include springs! I know I can do just as good, but I need some ideas. This is going to be a dd / mud / do all truck, so no sheetmetal spring hangers here. I also want to get a fair amount of lift out of the hangers themselves. Anybody ever see the ones on the front of Stacey David's "Seargant Rock" on the t.v. show Gearz? I know those would kill approach angles and probably scrub, but I love overkill! I am SASing a 98 fullsize and putting in Rockwells and 49" tires. I appreciate any ideas or advice from you all!

Like this? Just some ideas you can use.
Hanger out of 3"X5" 1/4" wall rectangle tube, 1/2? wall tube for spring mounts (looks thicker but don't remember), all welded together with 1/2" plate. In picture it's upside down.

Exactly what I was looking for! I checked out your website and that is some NICE rockwell stuff you got going on. I'll be in touch for some shock tabs and hardware for sure. On that first pic though, how does the spring attach? Chevrolet rear style shackles? Hope to get some more posts from others too.

First pic would be like a rear chevy where the shackle's mount. I got more examples, have to find some pics.

My stuff is all hand cut/ground, I don't really do production kind of work. There are others on here with access to burn tables for slick looking tabs and mounts (mudpro & rides for example) but I can do them also.

I just did a SAS on a 98 chevy with 1-tons and used the sky manufacturing front hanger kit. It was $350 for the front crossmember, and the two shackle hangers, and the shackles.

It was worth it for the money, just for time saved, and the shackles and shackle hangers are over built and are super built. Although I did add some gussets to the crossmember.

This may not help, but here are a few pics of the one I build in the front of my YJ. The center is 4 x 4 - 3/16" thick rectangle, and all other pieces and gussets are 1/4". The top plates that lay over the crossmember and go back onto the top of the frame are 3/16". The front frame extensions are 4 x 2.5", 1/4 thick I believe.

I like the D-rings on the side of that one. Might come in handy for winching or using a hi-lift on the trail! Anybody think I can fit 49" tires on a fullsize chevy using stock height springs???

I'll see if I can find some pics of the chevy, we ran 52" rear springs (84 suburban) in the front with the sky kit, and in the rear we used stock 97 rear springs and flipped the skackle over and moved it down another two inches if I remember correctly. I'll see if I can find some pics somewhere. You can 49's on stock springs, but its going to take ALOT of trimming. But I could see it being done. A word of advice, I'd try to find a set of springs for the front that have an offset center pin (maybe beefed up cherokee or dakota springs) That way you tire will stay out of the doors and firewall, but'll you'll be able to cut more of the front bumper etc.

Better go buy stock in sawzall blades and cutoff wheels. But you would have a pretty low COG with big tires. Do it, I'd like to see it.

Got the axles under the truck. Looks like I'll give it a shot! I'll post pictures of my progress here or maybe start a build thread. Will keep you updated! I know what you mean about sawzall blades and cutoff wheels. I just finished a 52" spring swap on the front of my fiancee's K5, and after 24 rivets to cut off the frame and making shackles and all, I wish I had stock in dewalt and milwaukee!!!!

Here's the first pics...none of my brackets. According to our measurements, we're going to have to move the point where the spring attaches to the frame down 10 inches and run a 6 inch block on top of the axle. That will make enough room for stock springs and 52" tires at the same time. Flame on!
