Ok, so we have been with Nationwide since we bought the house, home owners and auto. Always thought the rate for home owners was a bit high, and auto seems to be creeping up as well.

Recently I had the opportunity to get quotes from other companies, only to find out that Nationwide has been almost DOUBLE the rate on home owners than what I have been quoted for equal coverage from other companies. Oh really ?

So I mentioned this to my Nationwide agent as I canceled our auto policy this week, oddly enough, there was a "coding error" and we have been credited back $250 for the years HO premium. GREAT !! but what about the last 5-6 years ? who's gonna credit back the coding error from those years ?

"Err umm....." , right, I thought so.....

Moral of the story kids, check your rates regularly, lest you get slipped a cheap shot.

I 2nd this story....we were with Allstate for years until we had a claim and the service sucked.

My homeowners went from 985 to 215/year...and auto was more than cut in half as well.

With the internet, you can quickly and easily get quotes to compare....and in my opinion none of them have any service anymore so just go cheap.

I've been with Nationwide for about 12 yrs. Over 5yrs ago, they had both auto and homeowners, but I found it was cheaper to switch auto to Progressive and take the hit with homeowners-only with Nationwide, lose the auto-homeowners 'bonus'.

I'm glad you posted this, because my Nationwide bill is due shortly, and this year it went up 40-50%. They included a letter saying the NC legislature or insurance board authorized/adjusted/mandated a rate increase. I guess its time to shop around, or at least confront the Nationwide agent.

Nationwide and Allstate are the two worst insurance companies out there.

Are there any GOOD insurance companies anymore ?

they all have their quirks, aside from being a step above lawyers ( not much ) they are a necessary evil.

Went with Liberty Mutual for now, I've had an earful about them already, but the discount thru work was helpful, and if I choose, I can do payroll deduct for auto premium.

Liberty quoted $450 cheaper than Nationwide on home owners ( before the "coding correction" ) and was about $200 cheaper on auto. enough of a savings to jump. time will tell if it is worth the jump.
