Home security suggestions???

As said, small area mostly block and very insulated with 55 - 57 degrees being radiated upward consistantly year round from the abandoned well.

So Ron, you're not married I take it? No children? And if so, your at home 24/7 to defend them from crackheads... And if married, your wife's belongings have never been voilated? She's never witnessed her clothes scattered and bursted into tears. could have been SOOOO much worse. You might as well go ahead and tell us your wife would open the door without you at home and let them in and offer them a drink and sandwich...o_O

I "liked" your 1'st post but TOTALLY disagree with ya now...

The 175# solid oak front door is only my beginning. I hope they come back and kick it til they limp the rest of their life. And if crackheads even peak in my windows, I want to know who they are for sake of not me, but my wife's safety.

I am married with 2 kids.
They are my life.
Our home was broken into 10 years ago..house was ransacked...hell the first sign was my Dog met us at the door with a pair of my wife's panties in his mouth that had been dumped out of the drawer.
Her response?
At least I wasnt home alone when he came in.

That camera system will do NOTHING for her if she is home alone.

Here is the thing..they can come on your porch, kick your door, peep in yoru windows etc. If they dont break in the camera system doesnt help. The police cant do shit because they didnt committ a crime. Now if they break in the camera can help them identify the perpetrator. Maybe help them apprehend them.

in 2001 my low voltage and alarm company was acquired/purchased by Brinks home security. I spent 3 years working for them and they pounded into sales reps heads every day. REMEMBER WE ONLY SELL PEACE OF MIND. WE CAN NOT. WE DO NOT. SELL SECURITY. Only you can secure yourself. That's what iw ant you to hear. Teach your wife to shoot. Depending on their age, teach your kids to shoot.

Here is a little follow up to the break in above.

About 3 months later I was out of town and at 2 AM my wife was awoken to something rattling the front door. She looked out the window and made sure my truck wasnt in the drive way. She then proceeded to fire 3 rounds of a 12g 0/0 buck shot through the front door....yes through the fawking door. Scared the shit out of the dog my son. To this day I dont know if anyone was on the other side of the door. But I do know she called me 5 minutes later totlaly calm and told me what had happened and the police were on the way to file a report. After the police left she went back to sleep.

Look do what makes you guys sleep well. I would have armd her and potentially the kids depending on age, before I installed "security" cameras.

I think the only thing I have to add for this response Ron is that your wife has bigger balls than the other 98% of women. You better not be a cheater!

Good point, I will only call them "cameras" from now on.

Did see where the arsonist out in CA was finally identified by a private individual with cameras outside so they have multiple purposes for mine are aimed to identify any vehicle coming and going down my road (dead end) with a time stamp. I'll be the neighborhood watch for the other 8 houses as well...

I was also planning to plant either rose bushes or some NC native Spanish Dagger if I can find some for sale under my 3 windows since they get full sun. My dad had S-D once when we lived down in SC. You don't want to be climbing around that shit... But I also figured if breaking glass is involved, chances are pretty good there will be some blood DNA.

When I used to work in downtown Detroit, the plant I worked at was broken into more times than I could count. The last time it was broken into (prior to me leaving the job), they broke into my office through a glass block window. They knocked it out with a hammer which made a HUGE mess and crawled over it leaving a trail of blood that looked like something out of a zombie apocalypse movie. This was right around the time of the OJ trial, so DNA evidence was the hot topic. I called the police to report it and they just told me to go ahead and clean it up. It wasn't worth the manpower to investigate unless someone was dead. I suggested they follow the trail since there might be someone dead at the end of it... Click.

As was mentioned, I agree about a weapon for personal security in your case. I was just suggesting the system for when you leave so that you will know if someone is there if you are not. I'd want as much advance warning as possible to be prepared to approach the house in case they are still there when you get there.

The downside of protecting your house with booby-traps, etc (even aggressive shrubbery) is that you also want the house accessible to fire personnel in the event of a fire. I'd hate for someone trying to put out a fire in my house getting ripped to shreds by rusty nails just because you are trying to keep your flat screen from getting gripped.

Thieves just suck all the way around.
