Just curious what systems people have, ADT, CPI, or others, pros and cons. Looking for something that is monitored and also sends signal to alarm company if phone line is cut.

I just got an ADT installed a my car lot after getting ripped off pretty bad the other day(merry christmas from the fu*&king thieves), just wanted everyones thoughts on a home system. Any info would be greatly appreciated:beer:

So what do you suggest? Brinks? Do you sell systems in my area. I have one inside dog, but stays in a kennel while at work, What kind of cost am I looking at. Thanks

If your looking at going with a system that is little cost to install, Look at going with CPI, I was with them for quite a while. If you go with them your cost to install will be low from free to $200 on avg. If you just get a basic system. Monitoring will be higher from $36 to $50 depending on what you get. Service Calls included in monitoring.

The other option is to go with a small local company, but your going to buy the system up front, So your installation cost will be higher from $700 to $1100 for a basic system. But it would be less to get more protection, Large companys addons are high than the local companys. Monitoring will be cheap $15 to $20 a month. Most likly with out a contract, CPI will require a contract. Service calls with the small company will be charged on a per call system around $75 a call plus parts. Though it will be installed better and have less calls than a larger company.

Really depends how you want to do it. Let me know if you decide to go with a small company, I am out of your area, but I will see who is.

How many doors and accessible windows do you have? I can get you an example of what my small company would charge just to get you a ball park. Are you more interested in protecting while your gone or when your home or both?

We have CPI. We had adt and switched. I like CPI much better, seemed to have better monitoring and faster response. That being said, my Doberman is the best security system I could ever have.

One point here, Brad you specifically mentioned "send a signal if line is cut"

To clarify a common myth, a security system has a dialer thaat is hooked up to your phone line, if an event happensit "picks up" your phone and makes a call. It is not a permanent connection with a ping-pong or check in, IOW if a line is cut it is easy to sound a siren in the house, if you want someone outside of the house to know you HAVE to have an alternative communication system be it radio, cell, celemtry etc. This will cost additional per month.

If I was going with a quick and easy it would be Brinks, CPI 2nd, and ADT dead last.

If you are getting serious about it, PM me. I have a ton of equipment (I had my own company briefly) I can come hook you up with an install then you pick up the phone and call whomever to monitor it.

[Also unless they ahve changed again in the last 3 years, CPI no longer covers service calls as part of the monitoring and is charging for them]

Last I heard they were, But hell who knows now.
And if you put his system in call me I will monitor it for $195 a year though my company.

Wow I need you guys up here, we're buying a house that already has a system, and I need monitoring. nothing that cheap up here.

Which raises a relevant question. the seller of the house is a nice guy, he had the system installed, and will probably give me docs for it... but in te hevent he dosn't.. .what are the chances of me being able to get info on it later? Chances are I'll want to add devices, or hell even change the code, lol.

My security system is made by Remington. Extremely reliable if I am home.

Otherwise, a CPI yard sign out front is all that is needed to deter criminals.

Go here and look up the Brand and Model # (No Need to Sign up it just gets you in there forum)

They have most all panels, Though its not updated often

We just recently got a CPI system and have been very satisfied. They have something called a Cell Backup that works like a cell phone. If the phone line is cut, the cell backup kicks in and calls CPI and they can still communicate with you.

Yep Mike hooked you up with the link.
If that doesnt work or is too confusing just hollar at me, we will talk it through.

I'd wager between Miek and myself you wont find a panel built in the last 30 years that we havent installed, serviced or operated.

Its a Cell Dialer, But the monthly is high, $47 or so a month. But works good.

Rat- Like Ron said we can walk you through just about anything.

Wow $47 a month for cell back up fee? They can be had cheaper if you go to a company that monitors only. Some big names Co's add the cell unit on as a special for as little a a $5 a month extra fee. Ratlab do a google search 90% of panels can be programed from the keypad and most info can be found on line. There are a few that can't and some of the really old systems had a slave dialer but I haven't run into one of those in almost 20 years. If you need you can find Co's that will monitor a system for as little as $9 to $10 a month.

$47 is 2 way voice and a celemetry back up.
Not $47 for just the cell.

BT Mike are ou doing anayting with alarm.com these days?

Yeah Should have been clearer on that,

No, I use Security Central for all my monitoring, I like the fact there local, And I deal with them well. I use there Uplink Cell and I use DSC's GSM with Connect24 on new installs that require cell back up, My monitoring with cell backup is around $360 a year for the customer.

Thanks for all the info guys, just also oredered a DVR/IR camera system for the lot. I fucking hate criminals!
