Got something that started recently with the well at my house. You can be in the shower or starting a load of laundry, etc. and the water pressure just drops to nothing for maybe a second or two. It then goes back to normal like nothing ever happened. It's done it maybe 4 times in the past month. I've also noticed that I seem to have more pressure than I used to. The gauge at the tank under my house reads around 98 psi constantly My guess is the pressure switch is going bad. Anybody here work with wells that might have some input? Thanks.

Yea, I would say you might want to look into a new switch. Ours did the same thing once or twice where it doesn't turn the pump on, then one night it kept the pump running all night long. We decided it was time for a new swicth once it started to stick in the on posistion.

yeah, that's a little on the high side for your tank pressure.

definitely sounds like the pressure switch to me also.

Went to Lowes and picked up a pressure switch. I'm gonna change it out tomorrow and see what that does. Thanks for the input.

I am going to say the small pipe that the pressure switch is mounted on may be stopped up .The pressure builds high trying to get by the blockage and drops very low before the water pushes back out of the switch. I work on a lot of well pumps and have seen this problem many times.

BINGO! Got the pressure switch and the small piece of pipe replaced. That pipe was totally clogged. I don't know how the pressure switch was even working at all. I did still here it clicking on and off before I switched it out. I had to change the gauge also. It was clogged too hence the high reading. It was just stuck there. When I took it off, the pressure reading did drop to around 20 though. Thanks for the input guys.

i have had a lot of experience with well pumps. Your old switch is probably not hurt. If your gage has ever froze it will show those hi readings also.
