In 2 weeks I will be going to Honduras for a few weeks. I have been spending the past month getting ready for it. i have never left the country and it has been over 10 yrs ago since I have been on a plane. While I am down there I am going to be helping the poor and be in some remote areas. some of the videos I have seen from my church show some crazy roads. looks to be some fun offroading and fording through some rivers. i really wish I could have my montero down there bouncing around the back country. Some of the trip we are going to have to hike to some of these remote villages. I am really looking forward to helping the people down there. I will try to take pictures of the 4x4's I see and some of stuff down there.

I was curious if anyone has been to Honduras? Any thoughts or suggestions? I know about not drink water without treating it. i thought this would be something different to talk about on here.

Went in 1988 with my Army Combat Engineer battalion, can't say exactly where but about a 2 hr bus ride outside Tegucigalpa. Beautiful country pockmarked with poverty and desperation. I constantly found myself saying" hmmm, don't see THAT at home! " Be careful who you trust and what you drink and you should be fine.

Mom just got back, was there a week teaching to-be teachers how to teach math, using really cheap/easy-to-make props/supplies etc.

You're going to see a lot of Toyota vehicles, old and new.

Toyotas are ok in my book. I think it is because there was a ton of them when I was in HS and got burned out of seeing them, but at the same time a gen4 hilux crew cab would be sweet.

It is interesting hearing about the different projects done in Honduras We are going to be doing the following:
vison test and making eye glasses
medical treatment and vaccines
construction projects
sports camps
feeding stations
pastor school
vacation Bible school

Went to Guatamala a few years back on a mission trip. What an eye opening experience.

Hey K45 - I really admire you and any others who are taking their time and resources to help in this way. Hope it goes really well - Good Luck!

Have you contacted the CDC to see what vaccinations you need? I suggest a Hep. series & what ever you can get from mosquitos.

Keep shoes on your feet at all times, parasites can burrow through your feet & totally screw your body. Yes, treat the water before drinking. Be aware for the food & how well it's cooked. Keep your pecker in your pants. Watch out for the penguins...

I have tifoid, Hep A, Hep B, Tectnus, and some other shot. I start my malaria pill regiment next week. i have been doing alot of homework for this trip but nothing can prepare you as much as someone with first hand experience.

I think it's great to share your time with others that are less fortunate, Have a great trip and when you get back I can't wait to see some pics!

I went to Honduras a couple of years ago but it was a stop on a cruise. The people there were nice, just poor. I wish I could go on a mission trip but I have not the funds or the vacation time to spare.

Funny story, the day we docked in Honduras, they had just voted in a new president or something that morning. The government was afraid that the extremist groups would start shooting and tearing up the town (Puerto Cortes). Every corner, every store had a military guard with a machine gun and/or a shotgun along with a pistol on his side. They stared at me intently (white boy with khaki's).

thats awesome! who did you go with? People from my church Maple Springs Baptist just got back last saturday night also. Just wondered if you were with them

I went to Brazil & spent 12 days in the Amazon on my first mission trip in 2010. It was one of the best things I have ever done!

On our trip back there was a few others churches coming back from Honduras. I went with an organization called Lifehope. Where multiple churches and groups work togethor. They have adopted the town of Tocca in Honduras. I am ready to go back. I wish I spoke spanish it would make things easier.
