Honeyville 4.99 flat rate shipping

I just read a dry canning article about those 02 absorbers, said in quart jars they would actually pull the pop top down into a vacuum and keep dry goods four a couple of years at least.

Longer than that. In an O2 non-permeable container like PETE (soda bttles are PETE) removing the oxygen is the key to keeping dry good fresh for very long periods.
No O2 means no weevils and other nasties too.
Certain dry goods with low oil content like grits, sugar, salt, white rice and pasta will last indefinitely and be edible.
A 100 cc absorber will suck the sides in on a 2L soda bottle even packed hard with sugar. You can get a hundred 100cc absorbers for $10 shipped on Ebay.
100cc is just right for a 2L soda bottle.
4 pounds of salt or sugar will fit in a 2L bottle.
50lbs of white rice will go into 13.5 soda bottles.
Not done grits yet but will report when they get here.

The blue pepsi crates that hold 8 bottles make storage easy if you can acquire them. WM started getting wise to us buying diet dew and taking the crates with us LOL.

Where do you get 2 liter soda bottles?

I mean... I think I drink "a lot" of soda, but I can't see going through 2L bottles on a regular basis. Shit'll go flat.

I don't see the deals. The grits may be cheap, but there's a lot of not cheap stuff too.

3 lbs of almond flour for $30, or 5 lbs for $45? $13 for 2oz of dried apples? Whoa..

Shawn, I have an outside fridge and we buy diet dew 20 at a time when they are 99 cents. We have zero issues with them going flat.
We simply wash them out with hot water, no soap and let air dry overnight. We remove the labels too.
Ask your friends and family to save their's for you to speed up the process.

Coke product bottles are taller by about 3/4" and in my experience do not have as good of a lid seal.
Diet drink bottles have none of the sticky residue that sugar drinks leave behind. The green color of the dew bottles also helps with light degradation.

Yeah, we buy 50lb bags of rice at Costco for $17. We have several bags put up in bottles. Pasta in bulk can be had various places too. Grits for some reason are not as easy to get. Sams carries 25lb bags but not locally and not available to pick up in store. We even have a mill close by our house and their prices on bulk grits are ridiculous.

The grits are what I posted because I have been looking a deal. $1 a pound is way cheap compared to any other way I know of buying.

Edited to add- grits and rice can sustain people for a long time, a little goes a LONG way. 1/2 cup of dry rice is PLENTY for an adult, grits the same. Add some water and salt and it would taste like filet if you are hungry. Put a little squirrel or canned chicken in it and it's down right delicious.

You are buying canned chicken and veggies when on sale....right.....?
Aldi Aldi Aldi for canned goods.

Diet Mt Dew is my crack.

I easily drink 1.5 2Ls a day.
Easily.

Just another idea, long term waterproof storage of bulk .22 is something 2L or even 20oz soda bottles would be good for too.
Drop an O2 absorber and maybe a desiccant pouch and no worries about it corroding or going bad. (Even some rice would absorb any humidity)
Recently my friend Dan found a box of .22 in an old garage of a rental property.
It had corroded like they do when in a humid environment. None would fire, I tried every one out of curiosity.

I vacuum seal my stuff in qt jars, with the vacuum sealer(hose attachment) so far so good, going on 2 years.
Your grains, corn meal, flour and so on, freeze it for a couple of days, then seal em.
Not sure about difference in using the vac sealer method vs O2 absorbers. Am curious though.

Also a lot of thins I know such as flour, should be kept in dark, or in dark colored containers, due to deterioration from light.

I started putting up the grits today. I ran out of bottles but I think it will be close to the same as rice, around 13 or so.
As a side note, it all looks to be ground well and is pretty fine compared to some more course grits I have bought before.
