I bought a slightly used winch, looks brand new

8,000lb starter winch, Chicago Electric

Just something to get me by for a while until I can afford something else

anyway, It did not come with the soleinoid pack or remote

but we used a set of Jumper cables, pulls okay from what I can tell

Anyway, here is my question

could I use a seperate starter solenoid, mounted on the inner fender, and wire it into a 3 position switch on the dash?

Instead of buying a replacement pack with the remote

Northern tool sells the proper dpdt solenoids for your winch for about $22 a piece, then wire up an in dash switch. Starter solenoids don't last at all in this application. The switch is simple, the solenoid/winch wiring--not so much. Or you can buy a pre-wired solenoid pack with remote for $80. Which is honestly a good deal. http://www.piercewrecker.com/more_winch_accessories.htm#solenoid covers only

thanks for the link, I think the pre-wired solenoid pack is the way to go

I think by the time I added up purchasing a solenoid, wire and switch, I would be close to $50, $60
