ok, somebody tell me why i see a lot of pictures of crawlers with their front winch cable hooked to the front axle...

i assume it helps when crawling for some reason, but could someone explain the reason...

Suck the front suspension up. I only web wheel these days so this only hear say

It allows you to keep the front suspension from unloading when going up steep climbs s well as gives you a means of controlling droop when dropping off as well.

No no no..... :shaking:

It's for adjusting your wheelbase while you drive. :flipoff2:

Party down about 2:10

How in the world does that work???
It's been a good 10 years since I've seen this rig so I can't quite remember exactly. It may even be hydraulic.

There are hydraulic rams that extend the frame section in/out.

Pretty sure that rig had been retired now, but it might still be around.

Sounded like it was missing till he opened it up. Must have had an exhaust leak.
I remember reading about that rig in TTC for Four Wheeler magazine years ago. The front section of the frame slid into the rest of the boxed frame and hydraulic rams moved it in and out. Think it had AG drive shafts for plenty of slip. Fist time I ever saw a video.

Should have made it fully hydraulic, with hydraulic motors for individual wheel drive or shared axle drive. No driveshafts required. Hydraulic steering, wheelbase adjust, wheel drive. Need an engine and a big pump and an accumulator, make it a hydraulic hybrid like the garbage trucks in many areas.

He was trying the bounty hill at the Dixie Run several years ago. It had a nasty roll, several times over.

Thats Roger Kings rig.

Read up on the hydrodynamic buggy. Full stainless steel rig, hydro drive motors with a pump connected to a Diesel engine. Definetly out of the box design

Yep. That is exactly the type of thing I'm talking about. Super cool.

I had a mini buggy designed on the same concept back in my SAE baja days at ECU. Had 2 speed wheel motors with a reverse, Valves, pumps, etc. it never panned out but I still think it would have been a bad ass little buggy

Has an ls motor now... still hydro drive

Getting the thread back on track, here is a good up close example of a standard winch being used as a suck down winch.

Nice. Thanks that explained it perfectly
