About a month ago I bought a 2004 Jeep Rubicon and I've been dying to know what kind of mileage it's getting. After filling it up twice I've gotten my result. 11 mpg
I had a 2008 Rubicon before this and it was getting 12 mpg with 35" tires and stock gearing in it. I'm wondering if 11mpg is right for a 2004 Rubicon with a 4.11 ratio, 31" tires, 4.0L I6 engine, D44 front and rear. I drive it like I'm trying to save gas too, not gunning it everywhere etc...
I'm going to do a few things to it to hopefully bring my mpg up a bit like STP engine cleaner, CAI, programmer etc.
My question is, am I getting the correct mpg for what I've got? What can I do to possibly bring up my mpg's?

11mpg is about right.

There's not much you can do that will make any significant difference. There are a few things, but the cost will not make it worth while to get 1 or 2 more mpg. That's why I sold my 2004 TJ and bought a MK (Jeep Patriot).

X2, if you want to see 18-20 buy a Toyota :D You might be able to help it out a little with a tune up but unless it really needs it you won't see too much gains. I wonder what the hemi swaps get?

CAI will probably lower MPG or not change it. Just get this decal like I did, but I have a 6speed, and get better than 11, it'll be true for you.

My 5300lb TJ with 4.6 stroker on 36's got 14mpg, and on heavy 38's it got 12-13mpg. When basically stock on 31's It was 18-20mpg, and a best ever of 23mpg driving from Charlotte to Ocean Isle Beach and back.

Some idiots told you not to spend all your money on one vehicle, buy a tow rig they said, buy a gas saver they said. I only need one vehicle, he said.

Now you know why we all warned you. Jeeps are never what you expect, always have a back up plan.

I just drove my 05 Rubicon LJ, Auto down to Florida last week and did 14mpg, 4 inch lift on 35", I was excited about that haha...

My '00 Grand gets 13 on a good day, with a tail wind, going downhill.

Are you sure the speedo is accurate? I would check that by GPS first. My 04 auto with 32s and 4.88 gears gets about 13-14 most times.

one thing that I noticed helped bump up the MPG in both my TJ and XJ were new plugs, wires, and cap, if you haven't already done that.

My 06 rubi is heavy armored with 33s on stock 4.10s with an auto and get 14 to 16, Do a complete service, new plugs, air filter, and so on. Simple service work on youre vehicle gets overlooked by most and can make the biggest differince.

get 10.8mpg in my one ton'd fully trail setup (5,200#) CJ7 with a 6.0 and 37"s... and I drive it like a teenager
