hotel on top of the mountain in banner elk..Whats the name?

I think its in banner elk. Its the big hotel thats on top of the mountain near the ski slopes that you can see from grandfather. I was wondering if anyone knows the name of it and if anyone has stayed there before.
 
Yup Sugartop...last I heard it still sucked. Rumor is they had trouble getting a good water supply up to it and the winds were too strong for the windows to withstand. I don't ride Sugar too often but whenever I do the parking lot is mostly empty.

Every time I went last year the parking was crazy and there were about 3X too many people there. But, I am used to skiing out west, so this east coast skiing just seems way over croweded and over priced...

Could not agree more, I guess after that was built new laws were passed to make sure that doesn't happen again.
 
About 15 years ago, I met a guy on the AT at a shelter one night that worked construction on it when they first built it, and still lived down the mountain from it. Kept us rolling all evening telling stories about building it. Before closing up the windows, they measured windspeeds in a hallway over 70mph.
