I find it funny how now that UNC has 4 losses under their belt they're having a "rebuild year"... I'm sorry but UNC should NEVER have a "rebuild year" with their recruiting, history, coaching, talent, etc....

Growing up in NC you either love the Tar Holes or hate them... that's just the way it is...

There is nothing wrong with a rebuilding year. They can recruit great players, but without game time you never know how good they will be. I am pretty sure Roy knows what he is doing...
 
Carolina fans need to suck it up and face it... it's not a rebuilding year... there is no such thing at UNC...

Roy and his coaching staff dropped the ball and didn't pick up a "pure shooter"... any time UNC plays a team that can shoot outside they have great chance of winning the game... I see Duke easily walking on them for that reason...
 
i told myself i wasn't going to say anything. but i can't help it.

i am a duke fan. that being said, carolina is going to be fine this year. have a ton of talent, and more importantly they have ed davis, and thompson. they went to play a tough team on the road, which i applaud, and did so without two starters. granted graves blows, so really only one important player. and they lost, big deal. they are going to be fine.

Coach K is an awesome coach and has a great program. I don't understand people that actually hate a program. There have to be some issues there.

For all the recruiting power that UNC and Duke have, how did John Wall, WHO GREW UP IN RALEIGH, end up at UK?!

roy never offered him, because he is one and done, and has reggie bullock coming next year. k offered him, but duke's academic standards (act scores) are out of John Walls ability. pretty simple really.

Agreed... Calimari got him, well, because he only plays thugs... So there you go, he may be a good player but was well below UNC, Duke, NCSU, Wake, etc. standards...

Also doesn't he have a ciminal record?

Not so fast. Roy is an undeniably great recruiter. He's got 8 McD's All Americans on his roster this year. And that's after losing 2 more early to the League. But he's proven on repeated occasions to be somewhat lackluster as an actual coach. He's notorious for eschewing timeouts when the other team is on a big run. Sometimes his team can reverse the momentum, sometimes they can't. Larry Drew stated after the CofC loss that they "don't practice late game situations" when trying to explain their bad choices at the end of regulation.

On that note, Duke beat UNC a few years back because JJ Redick had seen the same play from UNC (high screen for McCants) so many times that he knew what was coming and stepped into the passing lane to break up the play. Cue Felton and McCants angrily staring past each other for the lulz. :lol:

Wall attended Word of God in Raleigh, which has historically taken on players with troubled pasts or other issues. Schools like Memphis, USC and basically any SEC school would typically recruit from there but Duke and UNC simply avoided it altogether.

Duke needed a PG in the worst way. So K looked at Wall, met with him and his coaches/advisors several times and offered a conditional scholarship, meaning that he still needed to get that SAT/ACT score up.

Roy had Drew as a PG, Lawson leaving, Strickland in this year and highly rated Kendall Marshall next year, but he still wanted Wall. Once K had "vetted" Wall, Roy made a couple of calls, including one from the podium right after UNC won the 09 National Championship. But Roy had no chance because Wall's "advisor" Brian Clifton hates Roy with a passion for whatever reason. Apparently Wall wasn't very interested in UNC either.

Ultimately, Wall was always more interested in Memphis because of Calipari and his history with PG's getting to the NBA in 1 year. So he followed Cal to UK and the rest is history. Well...at least until Cal gets UK in trouble like he did at Memphis and UMass.
