OK......I built an 83 CJ7. Then I grew a wild hair and decided to sell it. Now I want it back. The Jeep has been sold two more times since.

Is there a way to find out who has it now? Does Carfax give names and adresses? I still have the VIN number. Any suggestions or help will be appreciated!

Thanks

No thanks. I already tried replacing it with a mustang and a YJ. Niether one did the job! I do know that the person that has it lives in my county and he wants to get rid of it.

I would suggest a ladder approach.
Call the guy you sold it to.
Get all the info he has about who he sold it to.
etc

Well I tried that but I feel like the last guy that sold it is giving me the run around. He dont return my calls and wont give me the owners info. I have talked to him twice but he just seems kinda shady. I wouldnt mind bypassing him. I dont mind him trying to make a little profit but I am not gonna get screwed either.

Is it the one in your avatar? I have seen a CJ that looks like that at Golds in Graham. Maybe the owner works out there?

Give me a few details about the CJ and I'll keep an eye out for it. I also saw the same Jeep going down Maple ave. in Burlington a couple months back. When I'm out and about I usaly dont miss a CJ on the road.

Carfax won't help, no addresses, not sure with all the privacy law crap now, but back in the day you could call the DMV and give them a VIN and pay a fee and get who was the registered owner, call the DMV in Raleigh and ask them, 5 minute phone call might save you alot of time and headache.
Or start talking shit to the local license plate agency girls and if she likes you enough will give you the info

If you can get the tag of one of the Jeeps in question, its easy to find the info on that, including the VIN its registered to. I don't know how to find the owner of a vehicle by just knowing the VIN though.

A quick Google search showed a ton of places that will do a reverse VIN search for the current owner. upwards of $87 thought. However, I did see them charging for free services (license plate lookup, etc.) so you may be able to find somewhere that will do it for free.

It is the same Jeep in my avatar. I never had the heart to take it off. LOL

Its slightly faded black paint with black hard top and full steel doors unless they put the soft top back on it. The hard top has dark tinted windows and roof rack mounts but no rack. The rear glass has a red "GOT MUD?" sticker on it. It may also have a "NC4X4" sticker and a "Carolina Trailblazer" sticker still on the front or rear glass. It has about 6" of lift and 35" mud terrains on black steelies. You will also hear the 360 with dual flowmasters when you get close. There is probably a red firestick mounted on the tire carrier. Also no fender flares and does have a winch on the front.

If you happen to run across it and have time to talk to the guy, here is my number.
Thanks

I'll keep a look out for it.

Update: I got in touch with the last guy that sold it again. He finally came clean as I felt things were a little shady. He sold it to a young fella. The young fella told him to not worry about getting the title notorized and he "knew somebody". The next day he came back and said he wanted his money back and that he changed his mind. Seller said hell no! So he took the seller to small claims court and put a judjment against the seller for the amount of the sell. He also got the seller in trouble for not having the title notorized.
What an idiot!
Now I am gonna have to try to get in touch with the buyer to offer to pay the other guys judgment off and get all this mess straightened out. One good thing is I know that neither person wants the Jeep! And also the price is not unreasonable. What do you all think. Oh and I still dont know his info and the Jeep is not on the road as nobody can get a tag for it until this is fixed.

Well teh good news is - if it's been in court, you can get the full name and address of both parties, that's a matter of public record.

Thats what I'm gonna do Monday morning. The seller still wont give me the buyer's name. I'm gonna get this Jeep back somehow!
