My XJ seems to have sprung a leak. Pulling on to base, the MP mentioned he smelled gas. I got pulled over and noticed that there was a waterfall of gas coming out of the engine bay.

The red circle is the hole, about the size of a tic tac.

My question is about the white circle. How are these rubber/plastic lines attached to the metal line that runs to the gas tank?

the plastic is bonded to the metal with a secret combiation of heat and magic, not really servicable. That metal line does not run direclty to the tank, there is a quick disconnect by the UCA mount. The service part would be about 4ft long. You could cut the bad section out, and slide some rubber hose (rated for fuel injection) over that, not sure if 2 hose clamps would seal over the plastic line though. It will work on the metal line. I'd try it out though, it'd have to seal better than a hole in the plastic line.

do this but use a flare tool to add a little lip for the clamps to hold to.

Magic! Lovely.

Thanks for the pointers. Now to figure out how to ask for "fuel injection rated hose" and not get a garden hose.

in the states, its easy, AutoZone etc has spools of it, ask for fuel injection hose, since most everything nowadays id fuel injection, its the "standard" hose. There will be text printed along the hose, something like "RATED FOR FUEL INJECTION, 100(?)psi" along with the size. Good luck abroad!
