I was doing some work on the wife's XJ, It all started with replacing the upper coolant hose, decided to change the heater hoses, the lower coolant hose, add a coolant flush for good measure, might as well do the thermostat......add an idle pulley, serp. belt, water pump tube, water pump, junkyard run for a replacement fan shroud, fix a damaged fan blade and what should have been a $25, 1hr. job is the better part of the day and $200.

How do you roll when working on your daily or any other vehicles you maintain?

When working on it, fix everything. However, if it's running, good, normal temp/oil pressure, let it ride... Oh and if it makes a funny noise, I bet it's within 1/2 mile of my shop or my house and is about to puke it's guts. (At least all the past failures have been. Heard a piston crack, eh, it's a old Jeep.. died around the corner. Oh that's a funny metal-metal noise - engine locks up 1/4 mile away.. )

Pretty sure that equates to “replacing everything “.
