Over the past three weeks myself and both of my kids have been sick (waiting for my wife to catch it now). We have a forehead, an ear, and an old school under the tongue thermometer (we've aged out of the fun way, rectal) and they all give a different readings. I basically use all three now to get an idea of my kids' fever.

where the option for the most accurate method... anal probe?

Mostly by ear, sometimes we take it under the tongue on my oldest so she doesn't have to take her hearing aids out. We have the same Braun ear thermometer the EMS/FD uses, figure if it's good enough for them it's good enough for us.

Ear. Wife’s nurse friends/other mothers suggested it. We did the forehead thing when he was a baby and I don’t think it worked that great

Not sure I’ve ever taken my own temperature…otherwise the kids get the ‘back of the hand on the forehead’ treatment. I’ve always been more concerned with symptoms than temps…

We have a forehead but readings are all over the place depending on what part of the forehead. So when the kids are awake we use under tongue

We use the ear route.
