For my buggy I finished in 2010.

LQ4, TH350, D300 w/4:1, D60f, 14b rear, 4 link rear, 3 link front, SAW air shocks, 47" LTBs and H1 beadlocks all built to 2010 KOH rules (safety gear, etc.)...

I prob. had $20k in parts, bought used and at discounts when I could find them over the years. Another $2k in materials (tubing, metal, etc.), another $4k in tools to build the buggy, and way more time than I can imagine. I'm guessing I had at least 1,500 hours in that thing over the years from sourcing parts to building, then changing my mind, etc.

Now I get to do it all over again..

I voted under 1000 but only because I got my YJ in the craziest set of trades ever. I traded a 74 nova I had less then $1000 in for a Bronco and several guns, I traded one gun plus a little loot for a CJ7 that I later traded for a Chevelle. I put the Chevelle together with a 454/turbo 400 trans combo and sold it for almost $5000, less the parts = $3500 profit. One of the other guns turned out to be a 1897 trench gun ,worth $1500 or so. I later traded the Bronco for my YJ and put a fuel pump in it, other than what I paid for the pump and Swampers, I've never done a thing to it other than maintenance. So I am up probably $3500 in the whole deal, it was one of the luckiest set of trades in my life. That being said I'd really like to put another $2000 into it for an 8.8 and SOA. Maybe one day....

gives a whole new meaning to "trading up" Nice :)

About 1.5 - 2 months income.

And if I lost my job I'd sell it tomorrow for half.

4Runner - probably pushing $5k in purchase + parts + repairs + repairs + more repairs.
'93 pucki p - FREE + ~$250 in parts taken from other scrapped projects
Bronco - um I still need to pay for it ;-) but after initial round of parts to get it driveable ~4k.

I'd honestly rather not know how much I have in it. I've never added it all up, but I feel sure that it must be well north of $20k by now.

if it weren't for the fact that I do ALL of my own work/fab........ i'd be divorced or pushing up daisies.
500+(lost count) hours of labor would be at the top of the chart by itself.
my YJ is the 4th vehicle the power train has been in and the 2nd the axles/wheels have been in going back to '04 (when I bought the crate engine). probably 14k there over the years.
YJ specific and parts used for this build (radiator, body parts/glass, springs, steering, misc.) about 4k.

I think the options need to be adjusted.

10-20gs is a little wide, especially given that there are detailed options like "under a grand", 1-4gs, 5-9gs, and then a huge chunk from 10-20.

10-20 will be the vast majority. I think the average is likely 12-14 but outliners in the upper teens give false impressions.

a better choice would have had the cut off at 14 and have another category for 15-20 and another for 20-25 or 20+.

But, I'm a detailed ass pointing out a useless point on an equally useful poll :flipoff2:

I'm the king of frugality. I've had the same truck for 30 yrs. and I just found out the tax value is now $500. It's powered by a salvage motor from 82. I just bought a used clutch for $40! o_O and I need to r&r the rear diff. and do some brake work, I hope to spend less than $500 on that. I'm working my way slowly to keep the boss lady happy.

Well, I clicked $10-20k, but there are really two questions, so I just picked the average.
Total spent: Probably around $30k throughout the years, maybe more, including purchase price of $18k
Total sold: Probably around $15k (buy low, sell high ;))
Total cost: $15k ish (ignoring typical insurance/tag/fuel/etc for any vehicle)
Current value: $8-10k?
Sentimental value: Priceless. It was the first vehicle I bought, I was 16, and it was 6 months old with 6000 miles on it when I bought it. I've done the labor and execution on every modification, and I can count on one hand the number of people who have driven it.

Got about $2500 in my 95 2dr XJ including purchase price and everything I've done to it over the last 3 years or so.

Had about $600 in our Crozet Cheap Truck Challenge XJ.

We'll have about $500-600 in our 98 XJ we're running in AA-class at the Flats race.

I'm figuring about, roughly, six million or so. I bought my first Jeep in '86 (which I still have). Gave $2000 for it then. IF I had put that 2k into Microsoft, what with splits, dividends and all, it would be over $6,000,000 today I figure. Anybody wanna buy a CJ so I can get my money out of it? I'll let it go at half price, too.

I'm in my XJ $10-12k including pirchase price. But she's come a long way. Lomg arms, 4.88's, locked, 8.8, steering, custom trac bar, ect ect.

I've got around 20k in mine probably but the bad thing it's still in pieces. I'm waiting to count up the reciepts to the end or I may never cause I hate kicking myself in the ass.

Due to alot of buyin, sellin, and tradin I don't have this much out of pocket in it but it'd probably cost 8-10K to build another one like it with new parts.

My fsj truggy was a budget build.
Stock truck $1200
60/14bolt $1500
Tires $1200
Wheels $300
Tbi injection $200
Misc metal $500
Used winch $60
Cd player $60

Farm jack $40
Gears&lockers $1000
Clutch $180
Misc bs $500
So im$6760 less labor
I done a lot of trading to be able to keep the price down and im doing the same thing on my cj build but im already $2000 into it.

Buckeye Performance Inc.

Im in the group that votes not to ad it up.
reason,
was at an auction the other day with a friend. he quotes how much he has in inventory at this time. so what do i do.yep, I go home and start with the books and calculator. been sick ever since. but do understand now y im eating potted meat and crackers 3 meals a day. or maybe thats y im sick. lol

The zj, about right at 3,300 not including wear and tear. Probably closer to 4,300 if you include the replacemt engine (wich I consider.wear and tear, its the cost of something being used) the first motor o put in was a gimme, I bought it with a cracked wrist pin.

$400 inital cost
$100 in replacement engine/trans (after scrapping/selling parts off the parts jeep)
$80 in a/c service
~$900 in the lift (different configurations of rough country crap and iron rock short arms)
$800 in 33x12.50 tires
$500 in 4.88 gears
$550 in trutrac limited slips

Keep in mind, other than the a/c, I did all the work myself. This doesn't include the second motor, tires, or u-joints, I considered those wear and tear, I drove the zj as my dd for nearly two years.

The samurai, about $1500
$1100 inital cost
$0 fixed cooling with odd crap around the house
$140 home-brew cv carb setup
$150 front knuckle rebuild kit, motor mounts, and clutch/throttle cable.
