Hey guys as some of you know I have been looking to buy me an older Yota to buildup. I am honestly only looking to do some mild wheeling to start with but as time and money allows and I gain some experience I may try some of the harder stuff like you guys live for LOL. Anyways, I found this truck about 8 miles from my house and wanted to get you guys opinion as to what it is worth before I think about buying it. The owner has no tiltle and the chances of getting one (the right way LOL) is slim so I am buying it with no tiltle none the less. It also has a blown motor as the owner said it had a busted piston or atleast the sleeve was busted. The motor is complete however and still in the truck. I am not sure of the model but it is somewhere around 82 or 83 I think. The frame has absolutely no rust. I also checked the body mounts for the cab and they are rust free as well. You can clearly see all of the rust on the truck from the pics that I posted below. I am looking for some of you experienced Yota guys to chime in and let me know what would be a good buying price for this truck. I know what he is asking but would rather get you guys opinion before I throw out a number. Here are the pics......

I am not a photographer by no menas but you get the idea. The owner even said he would deliver it for free! Thanks in advance for any and all help.

looks like 79-82 style by the front clip, I could be wrong though.

X2 what Gotlabs said above also....

BTW, give me a shout you stranger!....

Yea, '79 thru '81 actually. '82 had square headlights. Look on the door pillar and it'll tell you when it was made. X3 on the price with a blown motor and no title. I think you could file for a lost title at the lic. plate agency and then get the guy to sign the duplicate to hand it over to you. It'll cost the same as 2 titles, but you'd have a legit title in hand when it was all over. Just take the VIN into the person at the counter and tell them you need a duplicate title for it as it has been lost. I just got through doing this with my "04 Odyssey minivan when Honda said they sent it when they really hadn't. Got a duplicate title no problem and a day after the duplicate showed up, so did the original from Honda.

Edit: looking at your pics again it's an SR5 model with all the guages. Look for rust along the top of the windshield frame too. Doesn't look like there's any from the pics but ya never know.

Does it look like the frame is bent, looking at the first pic? The gap between the bed and the cab looks bigger at the top then bottom. But wouldn't that be opposite to the way you see most frames bend?

And I agree about the title - unless the truck has been stolen, you *CAN* get a title for it. Take the VIN to the DMV before you buy it and see what they can do for you. (Maybe don't tell the guy you're doing this, because he might try to jack up the price after you go through the trouble to figure out the title, which is not fair to you if you're doing the work. This might also help you to ensure the truck is not stolen, belong to someone else, have a lein on it, etc before you buy it.)

check under the carpet for rust through the floor. My parts truck that i bought had an immaculate interior....until i pulled the carpet...i could put my head through some of the holes.

I wouldnt pay more than $300 for that. Good find though. If you are only going to wheel it you dont necessarily need a title depending on where you go.

Richard I was thinking the same thing about the frame.
Wonder if it was a rear ender with a new bed slapped on?
