how much is to mush to shim rear end?i have a 88 xj with a dn44 , i have been looking for a SYE but no luck and not spending 300 bucks for 1 if i can get by . all i need to shim is a little i think . and what kind of problems do i run into when i shim if any .

thanks for any response

If you shim too much, you will not be able to get enough fluid in it. I cut the perches off of mine, welded them at a better angle, then welded the plug in the cover closed and put in a new bung at the correct level to keep fluid in it. I've put a couple thousand miles on it so far with no problems.

You can jack one end of the vehicle up to get extra fluid in the diff.

It's better to reposition the fill plug, but it will get you by.
