How Much Should I Pay For This XJ?

There's '95 XJ with the 4.0L and auto trans for sale down the road. It has 240k miles and needs a motor. Paint is faded and I'm not sure about the interior. Everything else seems to be ok since it was this guys DD until the motor let go last week. Sight unseen, what would yall say a responsible price is? And where do yall find these cheap 4.0 motors at?

Last Cherokee I bought I pad $900 for and it ran no motor, Id think $3-500?

I'd say about the same $300-$500.Any pull your own parts place is a great place to get a motor,most of them have a deal that if you can carry it across the scales it's $30 or $40.A Full loaded Jeep 4.0 with all it's accessorys weighs 515.Although with out all that crap you may be able to tote it.
 
I got a better look at it today. The paint isn't as bad as I thought and the interior is in good shape for it's age. It has a 8.25 rear which is a plus. On one of the lower differential cover bolts was a small number plate that said 3.5. Does that mean 3.55 gears? The only other number plate I saw was one towards the top that said 06.5 or something like that.
