I know it's there's not a universal answer to this question. I just replaced my 35 with a 44A and as expected, my driveshaft is a tad bit long now. Maybe 1" from even fitting into the 44A yoke, when pushed all the way up into the t-case. I'm figuring I should have the driveshaft shortened 1"-1.75". My question is how much slip yoke should be inside of the NP249? This is a daily driver with a 2" BB and 31s. I don't really plan to wheel it at all, but better safe than sorry. TIA.

You want to have 1" showing out of the rear seal on the t-case. Let me know if we can help you out w/ it.

QUICK MATH.
From the t-case tailshaft to the flat spot on the rearend yoke (where the driveshaft yoke bolts to) is 34 7/8".
The driveshaft measures 38 5/8" OVERALL, 1/2 way of the u-joint cap to the end of the slip yoke.
The way I figure it, I need to have 1" taken out of the driveshaft to have the 1" of slip yoke sticking out of the t-case.

EDIT*
THE PICS SHOWS DIFFERENTLY, BUT THE TAPE MEASURE WAS IN LINE WITH THE SLIP YOKE WHERE IT STUCK OUT OF THE T-CASE. AS YOU CAN SEE IT MEASURES (VERY CLOSE TO)35 7/8", EXACTLY 1" more than I measured under the truck. So I DO need to have the shaft shortened 1"...right?

Should've stuck with my intial gut feeling of 1". I went with 1.5" and the slip yoke is sticking out of the t-case about 2". I've still got "well over" 2" inside the t-case. No big deal for me, as I don't plan to flex this thing out.
