i'm thinking about going SAS on my toyota...but would like to do it with dana 44's...and tires no bigger than 35's... but i'm trying to get an idea of what it would cost...

any ideas or advice? or suggestions?

About the same as swapping in a toy axle. you are still going to want upgraded shafts, probably a gear swap, high steer arms, and a locker of some sort.

stick w/ the toy stuff, its worth it for parts interchangebility. strength is probably better as well. even if you've got a 44 sitting around, its still worth the $100 to get a toy front axle.

I am in the process of doing mine and I am using a ford dana 44 and I have alone in my axle 1200 with gears, locker, axle items(bearings and seals rotors and calipers), high steer arms and knuckles. I am looking about 2500 in the end.

44

It will cost about 1200 to build a Toyota front axle, but will be a lot stronger than the 44.

well, the whole thing here is....i don't want to upgrade the shafts and everything..... I'm not going to wheel it hard....AT ALL. just some trails and stuff...no crawling or super technical trails.

I am putting a 44 under my Jeep and trying to do it as cheaply as possible. You have to consider adding new brake lines, and rewelding the perches, steering linkages, tracbar bracket, shocks, and ds. In my case I have to replace pads and rotors. My bearings and linkages are alright so far but we'll see where I am once I get to fabbing everything up. I haven't replaced anything yet and I already have $1500 in just the axles and stuff I needed to get them under my Jeep. I am figuring to get them under for $2500 and then regear and replace Shafts. Good luck doing it cheaply.
