Shackles lengthened by 1.5" (4.5" center to center) and hanger in stock location with weight on the springs....

Comments & suggestions?

Looks good on first glance, but can you put the axle on a jackstand, remove the tire, and take a side shot to show the overall arch of the spring?

I think this will work!

While not great by some standards, it's 100% improvement over my old worn out leafs. Shocks were disconnected at this point, but will limit travel once connected... will probably lengthen the bumpstops to control the slight negative arch and install the "new" 9000s & mounts after the JAM (4th weekend).

The shackles will have to do for this ride also... the 1.5" chunks were beveled & butt MIG'd... a small cross section added to the rears, so hopefully they'll hold. Other than that, any other concerns seen?

Something is wrong with your draglink...

...it looks straight and it isn't hitting the springs.:flipoff2:

It's still a Bullnose!
Naa, looks great Caver. A great (and cheap) improvement, imagine that!
As long as YOU trust those welds. I thought longer shackles would help.

The compression is the same, but droop has doubled and they're much more, um.... "slinky". The old leafs were smoked from being so old, SOA'd, AAL'd, re-arched, de-arched, & generally worn slap out, the flexed & rode like a dump truck! Just driving up on the stump felt different as the I could see the front axle moving around, but none of the spine jarring like the old.

I still think I'm gonna add a few wraps of ducktape to these for GP! :flipoff2:

My welds aren't pretty, but they were laid down hot, & I do trust them... not saying the lengthening won't come back to haunt me, just fairly certain they won't fail at the welds (planning to make a spare just incase) :D

Looks perfect on the compression side.. spring is flat, and you've got about a 50° angle.

Good work man..

You may want to look into finding a set of dodge ram shackles. They are about 5" lond and the same design as the ones you are using. This way you would not have to worry about the welds.

Tell me more! What width springs are they for? By 5" long, I assume you mean eye to eye? Got a set you could measure up for me?

They are 5" center to center and look just like jeep shackles. Used on 2.5" wide springs. I have used them to replace a set of stock XJ shackles. They should work for you fine.
