How to bend and exhaust?

take it to an exhaust shop? lol

i'd recommend henry's in raleigh or bob's in garner. my roomate and i both had our exhausts done at bob's and they did a great job, custom bent and fitted.

you really need someone at the exhaust shop to bend it,but not many around where i'm at has dies to do that big, just curious what do you need 3" for your car must be a monster,my nova was putting down 434 at the rear tire and it only had 2.5

It is for a Porsche 944 race car, which is why I wanted to bend it myself, such a pain in the a$$ loading into the trailer and parking, unloading etc.

yeah it is a pain but i dont think the type of benders people have on here will do it without kinking it,good luck though

Check ebay/craigslist/bankrupt shops for a true mandrel bender. Get loan. Buy bender. Get another loan. Buy 3" die/mandrel set.
Or put the car on a trailer and take it to an exhaust shop. ? I bought 3.5" bends from an ebay vendor for the mustang years ago (45's, 90's and 180's of various radius'.) and welded them together since I was in the same position. Plus there aren't a whole lot of great exhaust shops around here.

Anyway, unless that's a (modified) 944 turbo...3" is too big.

this may sound weird but I have done it when a trk was on jackstands. Get some PVC, 45* and 90* elbows and mock it up. It fit but had to be "massaged" into place:rolleyes:

I have a method if you have a welder. I learned it from watching Biker Build-Off on Discovery! I've made several exhaust systems this way. It works and it's cheap.
Buy a couple U bends and some straight pipe. Go ahead and cut several small (2" to 4") pieces from one of the U bends. Fit the straight pieces where they are going to go and then pick out the best fitting piece that you cut to start the bend. Tack it in place and move on to the next piece. Keep on going till its all mocked up, don't forget to put in slip joints so you can take it off to weld it up. You can grind the welds down so it all looks like on piece or just leave them. If you're careful it will look and perform like a mandrel bent system and you can get it to fit in imposible places. If not, well...

exactly what rat rod said.. buy the u-bends, cut 'em, tack 'em, then weld 'em.. (TIG preferred so you don't "pull" the metal one way or the other)

somebody like fleet pride would have 3" 90 and 45* mandrel bends . also they have bells on one end also for easier welding

there's a guy in clayton RJ'S CUSTOM TUBING,he has a mandrel bender,his munber is 919-609-7308

On another note, id like to see the 944. My friend had one but he wrecked it last year (with me as a passenger) doing 90mph. Flipped 4 times... Neither one of us were hurt.. No roll cage either. Amazing peices of machinery!
