Trailer tire blow out.jpg
Had a blow out while towing a machine. Kinda scary but all is well. A time consuming process and uncomfortable being on the side of a divided highway. At least its Friday!!!

Loosen lug nuts.
Unload machine.
Use machine to lift trailer.
Replace tire.
Lower trailer.
Tighten lug nuts.
Reload machine.

I swear I could hear circus music coming from somewhere...

I carry a 4x4 block of wood, and pull the axle with the good tire up on it, so the blown one hangs. Have done it a couple times with two vehicles on the trailer no problem. Also carry a 1/2" electric impact with me, that makes it total gravy!

Nice writeup :D
Working on the side of the road sucks! I had this happen while pulling the dozer a month or two ago. I was too lazy to unload it, so I called a friend who lived a mile from where I was and he brought a bottle jack.

Is a 4x4 enough? Every trailer is different, but it looks like a 6x6 would be a minimum on mine because of how the spring mounts are hinged together in the center.

Anybody ever done this with a winch on their 4wd? Seems possible.

Nice! This was on the side of 85 around the SC GA line. And the spare let go 10 min down the road!

Both times I've had a highway blowout, I've had the highlift and 4-way lug wrench with me...swapping the spare was a breeze. Tried the 4x4 block, the flat tire didnt even get off the ground.

After this I may mount highlifts and 4-ways to the company trailers. On my trail rig the 4-way secures the tire. I may duplicate that idea.

Every time I or someone else breaks on the trail I mentally add something else to the trail tool list for the next trip. Trailer flats seem very similar.

I know we have the trail tools thread going with an ongoing list. Perhaps a comprehensive trailer tool and spare parts list would be a benefit to folks out there in web wheeling land. Especially to those new to such adventures.

LOL Ive done this except w a bobcat.... Just stick the bucket under the back of the trailer and lift the whole thing... :gitrdun:

Maybe its 6 x 6? Coulda sworn it was a 4 x 4, but I never took a tape to it..lol

on the carnival we would have not unloaded the machine, just put the boom to the ground & pushed picking up one side tof the trailer if the machine was properly tied down..

There is a specific reason I know this...

I carry 2 spares, aluminum floor jack, 19 volt 1/2 inch impact.
