How to do a 60k Oil Change the BMW Way...

Thats pretty bad, but i've seen worse in a volvo XC90 with 26K that obviously never been changed. Once pulled oil pan off a 350z and it had about 3/4 of inch of sludge just laying in the pan. Oh and can't forget the cherokee once with the whole valve cover filled with sludge, rockers just flopping around in the stuff.

hmmm. i currently have about 20000 on my acura. kinda makes me want to change it.

Naaaaaa, it's to f-n cold outside for that shit.

No, no, no. You don't ever want to BUY a new BMW, just lease them so when the warranty runs out you can just give it back to the dealer.

you don't cahnge it you sell it to someone dumb enough to buy a used BMW. and buy anew one if your in love with them.

Not sure I really agree with this....

Used BMW's are pretty popular, and if you truly love them, you'd be smart enough to buy a used one from a person with the same passion as yourself.

On top of that, you cant get the E30 and E36 new, and those are still some of the best looking BMW's ever made.

Wow - I love how you assume that "loving" a car also means that you are picky about maintanance.
I know guys on thsi site that have real passion for their 4x4s, but you couldn't pay me to buy the problems they've created in the same vehicles.

Chase's point is right on, to solve the problem you just sell it to somebody who dosn't know any better. Then just hopeyou can sleep at night.
Even if you could get all the crap out and really cleaned up (unlikely w/o a complete teardown/rebuild, that motor has a seriously decreased lifespan now.

well they do seem like a nice crowd over there...I'm just sayin'

Especially when the car tells you how long until the next service...EVERY TIME YOU TURN THE KEY ON!!!!!!!!

And honestly, I'd buy a used BMW over a new one any day. E46, E38, or E39. Those were the good ones. Anything made after that is a flaming pile of dog shite!

The thread was closed shortly after I mentioned the total rebuild and a couple of people decided to flame that.

what I said:

I'm not one to point fingers and tell someone they did a bad thing and I'm sure this guy has heard it from everyone on this site. The one problem I do see is that the motor clean up was done half assed and it should have been pull apart to see what else was messed up. Sludge build up like that has a tendency to generate quite a large amount of heat and not enough lubrication. This means that bearings are going to take a serious beating the oil pump is probably on it's way out, cylinder walls scarred all to hell, and so many other problems that this type of situation can bring upon. I would really recommend pulling the motor and replacing bearing and seals at the very least which is what I would have done, but, I'm a gear head and a car enthusiast I just prefer 4wd rock crawlers and old school muscle to new fancy cars.
my .02

one excuse for not:

Thanks for the recommendation. You buyin'?
As has already been noted in this thread: When the cost of labor, materials, and special tools to do such a job approaches the total value of the vehicle, a teardown and/or rebuild isn't necessarily the best option. How about this instead: Let's see how long the engine lives after the cleanup and auto-RX; when it finally dies, he can source a good used engine to drop in, for far less than the price of the teardown.
I guess if you can't afford the upkeep on a vehicle then you shouldn't own said vehicle, some people:shaking:.

Hadn't checked this in a little while. I see what happened, the silver lining in it, the guy that replied "Noted" was the owner. So at least he might have taken the suggestion seriously. It was some other idiot that decided to de-rail it.

Congrats on being the quintessential "muppet"!

Not only did you parrot the same crap that had already been said (*after* the OP/mods had requested it to STOP), you 2 managed to get the thread closed for the REAL users of that board! Thats after the thread had made the round on the interweb with millions of hits in 5 months all over the world!

After bringing OUR entire board into that crap (by mentioning NC4x4 there multiple times & hijacking an otherwise educational thread), you best never make a mistake & communicate it! If the BMW crew doesn't, you'll be lucky to survive the NC4x4 lynching... :shaking:

Looks like every other BMW or Mercedes with high miles that has been following the 10-15k dealer recommended oil services.....thats' what they look like at about 150k. If you're following that service schedule...you're ignorant or an idiot....or you don't plan on owning the car that long.

Looks like I seriously missed something here. You don't state any names but I am guessing by "you 2" since I was only other person from on here that posted that I am included.

1.)I didn't post the link to NC4X4 over there, or mention posting it on here. AG74683 another BMW member did that. I only mentioned that yes it was me that posted it after the fact. If you look the link I posted was from PlanetIsuzoo where the link had been posted by someone else.

2.)The Original Poster decided to get off on a conversation about NC by asking me questions. (my original posts were related to the topic at hand) It is his thread, so I guess he can do what ever he wants with it. After our discussion ended the thread went back on topic, and a Moderator even posted about it making the Epic Fail list. So obviously the original poster and the moderators had no issues with what I did.

If you want to hold anyone responsible for the closing of that thread I would say XJ91 (from some kind of Cherokee forum) would be the largest cause. Calling the owner of the car a complete idiot and a couple other things.
