so last weekend was helping (tiny bit) to make food plots at my buddys place. this coming weekend, Ill be making them at my place. Ive got more chiggers that californias got loonys. I mean, they will wear you out. and its nothing to have 10+ ticks on you in a matter of hours. soooo, since Im on a tractor, and its not hunting season, what can I do to prevent the dang itchies?

deet, gonna bathe in it
long pants / long shirt, done
flea collars on my boots ????
dryer sheets pinned to me, ???
garlic hanging around my neck??
thermacell?

what else ya got?

Get a tractor with an enclosed cab! I always try to use simple logic like this to trick my wife into letting me buy cool stuff.

Sawyer Premium insect repellent for Clothing. Been using this for the past 3yrs and haven't seen a tick or anything, I don't even think about them since I started using it.

where do you get this stuff?

My favorite aunt of all time used to pick black berries every year for decades. She always tied a kerosene rag around her ankles. I guess she always washed her hands well before picking because none of her jelly's or jams smelled or tasted bad.

Get some of the spectricide insect killer that you can hook up to the water hose & spray the area down. wait a day or so & all the bugs will be gone. Been useing in the back yard for the dogs (fleas & ticks) for 3-4 summers now & I haven't seen anything in 2 years.

150 acres. next!

Tell ya what, I'll come hunt and maintain that for ya and you won't have to worry about it:flipoff2:

you would get the blood sucked out of ya in a day if you didnt get anything to keep the ticks away!!!

This is going to sound like a joke, but it works. I haven't tried it personally, but have several close friends who swear by it, and use it everytime in the woods.

Womens panty hose (Sp?)

It was proven to me that it worked on a hunt about 3 years ago. I was video taping a buddy of mine bow hunting. We walked the same trail in, and had out climbing stands on the same tree, with me being about 6 feet under him.

Make a long story short, He ended up with no ticks/chiggers at all, while i had 4 ticks, and tons of chiggers. We both loaded up with High DEET spray before going in the woods, as well as both had thermacell.

He said since he has started doing this method, hes pulled ticks off the outside of the panty hose, but none have bitten him, and the same with chiggers. He wears them under his clothing as a last barrier to the bugs.

Now with that said, i know this is going to open up tons of jokes, but i promise, i'm not messing with you on this one. It sounds stupid but it works.

in thery I get the ticks, but chiggers and skeeters should be able to bite right through? but no, too clastrophbic to wear hose.

by the way Mac5005, if I got into an absolutely $hitty spot and couldnt get my willys/tractor out, could you PM me your number so that if I ever, ever got in a jam and needed a true wheeler to drag me out, my hunting property is in Castalia on Edwards rd. as you know, AAA doesnt do everything.

Off topic of ticks and such, but panty hose keeps you pretty warm when you ride a motorcycle in cold weather. A quick stop to walmart solved the cold problem.

Don't know about panty hose?, but get your wife to get you some Avon, Skin-So-Soft, wet a wash cloth, put skin-so-soft on said cloth, wipe down with it and no ticks, no chiggers, gaurontee. Might smell like a french wh##e but no itch!

well the verdict is in. after 16 hours over the last couple days on a tractor in 5' deep weeks bushhogging my trails, I used the Sawyer Permethrin clothing treatment (odorless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and REIs jungle juice. Not a single bug bite nor tick on me. thats over friday/sat/sunday. If youre a hunter, use it. Im not one to talk up stuff unless its top notch, and this stuff is. my dad went out unprotected- went to the barn, came back, bam! tick. REI.com
