Do any of you guys know if the hp 44 from a 73 f-150 would work good for a yj? I believe the c's are welded but I'm not sure. Also it has drum brakes. I think I can use chevy of fsj knuckles to get disc brakes, does this sound right? Thanks in advance

Why not just usre a FSJ axle? It is almost a direct bolt in.

I thought about that because I found a set of 89 wagoneer axles I can get for $500. Would they be disc on the front and are they vac disconnect? Could I swap to a locking hub? The reason I asked about the ford axle is because I already have a 9" for the rear but I could sell it and go for the waggy stuff.

Look around and you can probably buy an entire Waggy for under $500, strip the axles and sell the rest for parts to regain some of your money. Make sure that it is driverside pumpkin, the older ones were passenger side like Chevy. They are not vacuum disconnect, most have "auto hubs", which are very simple to switch out to manual locking hubs. I put a D44 Waggy front under a YJ a couple of years back with an Isuzu D44 rear so I would get discs all the way around. I have a buddy selling his EB D44 because we are doing a ton swap under it if you are interested. I will be about the same width as the Waggy 44, but more narrow than the F-150. Look under the build section under EB ton swap.

to answer your question, I dont think the 73 would be HP or really work for you... Ill let others clarify, but it is probably closed knuckle, and less than desirable for our use... You would be better off getting a later year 44 from a Ford, or from an 80s FSJ

Look around and find a HP D44 from a 78-79 F250. It will be 8 lug, but it will have the bigger axle tubes, disc brakes and bigger ujoints in the shafts than the F150 will, plus it is much easier to find with a flat-top knuckle for cross-over steering. You can look around and find these at a pretty good price and it will have 4.10's more than likely. I found a complete set D44front and D60 rear for $400.:bounce2:

I can hook you up with a set of D44's out of a waggy, non vacum, disc brakes, rebuilt calipers, tie rod, drag link and warn locking hubs for $300 if you are interested.

There you go Bridgeman, sounds like a good enough deal!!
